Shipper Manifesto: Lisa Reisert/Jackson Rippner (Red Eye)
Fandom: Red Eye (film)
Pairing: Lisa Reisert/Jackson Rippner
Blurb: I’d like to start off by saying that this is not what one might call a healthy pairing. Jackson Rippner is methodical in his cruelty and condescension to Lisa. However, the fact remains that Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy acted the heck out of these two and managed to infuse an undeniable chemistry into these characters.
I don’t want to give the plot away, but the basic premise is that Jackson is a ‘manager’ and his mark is Lisa Reisert. He holds her hostage on a red eye flight to Miami. She must comply with his orders or her father will be killed.
Now, it must be said, that in this day and age, to have a film that centers around two people in an enclosed space is quite extraordinary. Jackson and Lisa banter, snark, and tear each other to pieces, both physically and psychologically and it is thrilling to watch.
While Jackson may become extremely fed up with Lisa always disobeying him, I truly believe he ends up respecting the hell out of this woman, his mark. Lisa is resourceful, smart, and is not against fighting dirty to get out of a terrible situation.
As he himself puts it:
Pretty clear thinking given the circumstances. Wait, let me guess, some stress management courses? They're really paying off. When we get out of this, I may have to steal you.
And with this line and a scene in the airplane bathroom, this ship was launched.
Again, I’d like to reiterate that this is not a fluffy relationship. They are enemies. They do their darnedest to try to incapacitate and kill each other. But, there is a kind of understanding between them. Lisa, who had a traumatic experience years prior, finds a strength in herself that she’d forgotten about and uses that strength to take Jackson down.
The majority of fic for this pairing was written right after the movie was released and there hasn’t been anything new written in a while. (Something that must be rectified, get on it, fandom!)
I’m reccing stories that are intelligent, well-written and filled to the brim with banter and not once losing sight of the fact that Jackson Rippner is a man who kills for a living. Lisa is tough and yet, still vulnerable. Together, they simply tear the house down.

This is my absolute favorite Red Eye fic and author. The stories continue (DOA, Underground, Lux, and Mad Jack, Madder Rose) and are absolutely brilliant. It has the best explanation for why Rippner picked Lisa as his mark in the first place and the world you are drawn into is amazing. Read everything in this series. It has action, humor, amazing settings, romance, banter, and is so very well-written.
(Btw, this author is also my go-to author for anything Cillian Murphy related. There is a 28 Days Later fic that is absolutely stunning!)

This is a tough one. It does not shy away from the fact that Jackson Rippner has some very serious and deadly issues. It is extremely well-written and a fascinating read. There are some lovely descriptions and at least four other stories in the series.

This was a response to a challenge in which Lisa and Jackson are on the run. It’s lyrical, sexy and still manages to keep both Jackson and Lisa in fantastic character.

He’s insightful and she’s actually just waiting for someone to shake her world up a little. Very well-written and wonderfully in character.
