Why This Must Be Read: khohen is phenomenal no matter what she writes, but this one? Man. This one I read when I was getting drawn back into reading Chloe/Clark (after a 3+ year dry spell) and good lord is it pretty smokin'. This is also pretty great because it highlights a rather vast difference between Chloe and Clark. Namely, Chloe's a web-savvy girl who Knows What She Wants, and Clark has a puritan complex very much in keeping with the time and place he was raised.

Why This Must Be Read: Paperbkryter was one of the original and best Chloe/Clark writers. The story is lovely, but it's also really interesting to read because it was written prior to season 5 and the exodus of most of the cast, and the rise of the current incarnation of Lois Lane. This story is just so lovely and poignant and, ultimately, bittersweet in that it uses Chloe as she was originally intended; the girl to grow on. It breaks your heart and, at the same time, makes you smile.

Why This Must Be Read: Because I think most of the new Smallville Chloe/Clark fans - the ones that came in during or after season 5 - really had no idea what it was like to be an early Chloe/Clark fan. Because the early kids knew the score from day one, and this story pretty much outlines what we expected to happen, rather than what has happened. Namely, Chloe was always the character we expected to be expendable, simply because she was the only character created for the show. Pete, Martha, Lex, Jonathan, Lana... all of them have and had places in the greater DCU. I think fans absolutely need to read this to get an idea of what pretty much every Chlark fan thought was going to happen, if just so they can be a little bit more positive on how things have turned out.

Why This Must Be Read: Because this story just sticks with you. It's so painful and hard to read, and so damaging that you just can't let it go. At least, that's how it was for me. For real, weeks after I first read it, I'd think back on a line, or on the story and just cringe. It's so beautifully painful and perfect in its anguish. Also, the last few lines make it that much more perfect.

Why This Must Be Read: Probably one of my favorite (and one of the better) larger DCU incorporation of the Smallville universe. Something that needs to be known about SV is that it will never ever be part of the larger comic universe and never ever could given the original basis of the show. This is a very talented writer trying to gently nudge the SV universe back towards the comics universe but with the addition of several characters. These stories also predisposed me to liking Kara, which becomes important in later recs. Still, this series hangs together beautifully and is something I think most modern Chloe/Clark readers will mainline like the crack it is.

Why This Must Be Read: I don't know how many of you remember the short-lived ABC Family show Three Moons Over Milford. It was a quirky thing about a small town after the moon fractures into three pieces and everyone waits to find out if the world is going to end. Strangely, it was a comedy more than anything, and this story reflects the original spirit of it. Basically, it's Chloe and Clark at the end of the world (kind of) and figuring stuff out and being entirely themselves. It's probably one of the sweeter stories that I'm reccing, but definitely one not to miss!

Why This Must Be Read: I... I don't even know how to explain this series or how completely awesome it is. This is one of the most expansive, funny, and wonderful universes to come out of the Smallville fandom. Not only does the author take all those disparate threads and make them work, she does it with flare and talent. I honestly prefer this universe (and, if you poke around the links on that page, the Unexpected universe - the one where Lana gets Clark pregnant and NO I am NOT making that up) 1000x better than current Smallville canon. I mean, dude. If nothing else, come for the crack, stay for the awesome!

Why This Must Be Read: Because this is, full stop, the best SV/Batman crossover I've ever read. It's a Chloe-as-Lois piece that gets her into Gotham and digs into the comics Batman canon like there's no tomorrow. Considering I'm a huge Bat fan and Chloe Sullivan is my absolute favorite Superman canon character, I feel I have some authority in squealing like a little girl over this. The prose and the backstory are spot on, and not only do you get a crash course in Batman canon, it does it in a way that makes sense and is a faboo intro. Plus, the Chloe-voice is deadly and fun, and the last chapter makes me squeal like a little girl.
