Consecration (Firefly, gen)

Fandom Category: Firefly
Pairing: Gen with hints of Zoe/Wash and Simon/Kaylee
Fic Title: Consecration
Author: [livejournal.com profile] fox1013
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): G
Genre: Pre-BDM, one-shot
WIP?: No
Summary: We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

Why This Must Be Read: This is 100% not what one would call seasonal at the moment. But either save it for next December or read it now, because it's a wonderful merger of our band of big damn heroes and a wonderful body of tradition from Earth-That-Way, however unintentional on the crew's part. [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 nails characterizations, and I swear you can feel warm or cool from the writing at different points.

The Fish Job, Easy Tickets, and Back Stories (Firefly)

Fandom Category: Firefly
Pairing: Zoe/Wash, Mal/Inara, Simon/Kaylee, Jayne/OFC, with a dash of River/Mal and some River/OMC
Fic Title: The Fish Job, Easy Tickets, and Back Stories
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mal4prez
Link: Starts here
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, to be safe
Genre: Post-series, ignoring the BDM. Adventure awaits.
WIP?: Yes
Summary: The crew finds a new job and Mal finds new trouble.

Why This Must Be Read: This is one of the longest fic-verses I think I've ever seen. "The Fish Job" alone is a pretty big undertaking, and the sequel multichapter fics are just as long, if not longer. "Back Stories" is still in progress, and still well worth reading. [livejournal.com profile] mal4prez takes the Fireflyverse and builds on it like you wouldn't believe, from original characters to mad science to capers and smuggling job ideas. It's a little more magical, in places, than the series ever had a chance to be, but the characters stay on point, and the plot and the detail to which the author has thought all of this out will keep you hooked.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "Sleeper", Faith/Xander

Fandom Category: Angel the Series/Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Faith/Xander
Fic Title: Sleeper
Author: [livejournal.com profile] booster17 @ [livejournal.com profile] boosterific

Rating/Warning(s): PG15
Genre: angst, post-series
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: In this story, Xander Harris is no longer recognisable as Xander Harris, comic foil, The One Who Sees. And he will break your heart. This story deserves more than one reading - it's bleak and sparse and, somehow, it doesn't stretch too far that the characterisations are not believable. The end feels like a knife in the heart.
