Two Fandom Holiday Recs

Fandom Category: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel: The Series
Pairing: Angelus/Darla, Spike/Drusilla
Fic Title: Red as Any Blood
Author: D. M. Evans
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): Listed as "Mature", but it seems more like Teen/R to me.
Genre: (Twisted) Holiday fic, horror, humor
WIP?: N/A

Why This Must Be Read: D. M. Evans writes the Fanged Four at the Christmas holidays, doing what normal people might do - you know, caroling, visiting houses, eating the people inside. This is more a horromedy than anything, with all the trappings of Victoriana lurking in the background.

So far they had badly entertained two young couples and a sleepy-eyed opium fiend with more money than brains. If they didn't find more promising prospects, Darla suggested they go back to him. As the whole quartet of vampires broke out into "Jingle Bells," the door to the large home cracked open, the heavy evergreen wreath swinging, and a matronly looking woman peered out. The lines around her mouth deepened as she smiled.

Fandom Category: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Edward Elric/Winry Rockbell, Maes Hughes/Gracia Hughes, Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye
Fic Title: Love is a Battlefield
Author: D. M. Evans
Link: here
Rating/Warning(s): Teen
Genre: Romance
WIP?: N/A

Why This Must Be Read: First, this is a chapter fic, and while the plot is pretty much a trope in FMA fandom, D. M. Evans was one of the first writers of this particular trope. Fuhrer King Bradley is holding the traditional midwinter ball to celebrate the season, and Winry has been asked to help with creating the rotating ballroom floor. Edward, as a major in the military, has been ordered to attend the ball, with a date, and Winry decides to teach him a lesson when he's slow to ask her.

This is a cute story, with a lot of humor, some sexual themes, and a lot of Edward/Winry and Ed+Winry+Al interaction. This is usually my go-to story for reading when I'm feeling blue, no matter what time of the year.

"Now, that's a little better. I would love to go with you," Winry said, her smile softening. "Now I have to go fine a dress and shoes and your dress uniform is blue, right?"

Ed made a face. "Yes, I forgot about that dress uniform already. It doesn't fit. A dress?"

She crossed her arms over her chest. "You think I'm going in my work overalls?"

"Didn't you bring a dress?"

"Of course not. I didn't know I'd be going to a fancy dress ball," Winry replied tartly. "And you get that uniform tailored. I'm not going with you if you show up looking like a kid in Daddy's suit."

Ed sighed. "Whatever you need, put it on my account."

Winry kissed his cheek. "Thank you, Ed. I'd better get started."

Ed touched his cheek where the warmth of her lips lingered, watching her bounce down the street. He was a little too bemused to move for a few moments and by the time he was, Winry had collected Lieutenant Hawkeye and they were gone. Ed tried to keep the stupid smile off his face because he knew the older officers, with the exception of Armstrong, would be merciless.
