Why This Must Be Read: Okay, it may be cheating to call this a het rec, but I've posted just about everything else in my Buffyverse repertoire to this community already, and I really wanted to contribute to this challenge. In this oldie-but-goodie, Xander and Angel fight very tiny but loud demon-types while the Slayer (and Willow and Giles) are out of town. Perri Smith treats both characters--and their feelings for Buffy--with respect. They may never really like one another, but you can see why they did both make good sidekicks for Buffy, and how they might have connected, however reluctantly--and not just regarding their shared affection for the Chosen One.
Mods, there's not a Buffy/Xander tag, but I don't knoe that there's really the fic for it anyway.
