Iron Man/The Avengers, Six Recs

Fic Title: Yet Turning Stay
Author: irnan

Rating/Warning(s): Mother-issues.
Genre: Character study/romance
WIP?: No.

Excerpt:

Gin's mother died when she was eighteen; it was a car crash. Tony has known her eight years before he becomes aware that this is a thing they have in common. Pepper knew him eight weeks before she realised why she understood him so well.

Why This Must Be Read: A fantastic character study of Pepper Potts and a great look at how and why she and Tony worked so well together pre-Iron Man and continue to be amazing together post... everything.

Fandom Category: Iron Man
Pairing: Pepper Potts/Tony Stark
Fic Title: Games People Play
Author: [livejournal.com profile] penknife
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): Sexual content, light BDSM, references to torture.
Genre: Porn with plot.
WIP?: No

Excerpt:

The cuffs are cold against her warm wrists as he snaps them closed, and for a moment there's a flutter in his chest that he can't entirely attribute to the arc reactor blazing away.

"You do have the keys to these, right?"

"Of course," Tony says. "Besides, I have a blowtorch."

"Oh, no," Pepper says. "We are not doing anything involving a blowtorch. That's a hard limit."

He's getting the idea that she's not as much of an amateur at this as he assumed. That's weirdly reassuring.

Why This Must Be Read:

If you've hung around fandom for a while, you know that bondage is not rare - a fic with the negotiation of bondage - what is okay and how much - is a lot rarer and the banter was so delightful that it took me a reread to realize the issues that Tony is actually working with.

Fandom Category: The Avengers
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff/Clint Barton
Fic Title: Pull Up In Your Fast Car, Whistling My Name
Author: [livejournal.com profile] postcardmystery
Link: here
Rating/Warning(s): Dark, violent, sexual content.
Genre: AU
WIP?: No.

Excerpt:

Her hair is red, but it'd be a lie to say it's the first thing he notices. She pulls into town like her car's on fire, like she's a cowboy riding into Tombstone. He looks at those thighs, and knows she'd look better on a horse than John Wayne ever did. He doesn't say anything, just watches. (Because, as every girl he's ever fucked has told him, watching is what he's best at.)

"Give me a light," she says, and it's not a question, not quite an order. He does, and their fingers brush long enough for the flame to come much too close to that red, red hair.

"What do girls like me do for fun around here?" she says, and then he can't watch anymore, he can't.

"There ain't any girls like you 'round here," he says, and that earns him, curling in the pit of his stomach like the fire in his palm, a smile.

Why This Must Be Read: The prompt for this was, "Bonnie and Clyde AU.. in which Clint is Bonnie and Natasha is Clyde, obvs." The author took that wove a dark, melodic, and incredibly atmospheric fic. One of my all time favorite Natasha/Clint fics.

Fandom Category: The Avengers
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff/Clint Barton
Fic Title: Stones From The Riverbed
Author: Shtuff

Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: slice-of-life (as a master assassin).

Why This Must Be Read: This is a wonderful, quiet piece about Natasha looking for a new safe house, and realizing what an integral part of her life Clint is.

Fandom Category: The Avengers
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff/Clint Barton
Fic Title: Fighting Fire With Firewood
Author: Siria
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): R.
Genre: Character-study.
WIP?: No.

Excerpt:

The first time Natasha saw Clint and not just his handiwork, he'd been a flicker of a reflection in a shop window across the street. Throwing herself to the ground had been instinctual; the arrow embedded itself deep in the wood three inches over her head and Natasha kicked off her heels before sprinting for cover. It'd taken her twenty minutes to shake him fully, losing herself in a tangle of Milanese backstreets and the ambling crowd of late night club-goers, ripping her stockings to shreds on the pavement.

This meant that for the first three months she'd been at SHIELD, warily figuring out how to fit into a place she hadn't been designed for, Clint had referred to her solely as Cinderella—during debriefs and training and sparring bouts, in the elevator and standing in line in the staff canteen. He'd even called her that in front of Fury once, and Natasha had learned that a man with only one eye was still fully capable of rolling it with complete disdain.

At the end of the third month, she'd reached her limit and snapped, "And you're supposed to be Prince Charming?"

The grin on Clint's face widened, became something real—obviously pleased by something more than just a weak and tetchy comeback. "Well," he said as he tossed a tennis ball against the inner hull of the helicarrier and caught it, over and over, "I am from Iowa. We're raised polite there."

Natasha had heard of Iowa, of course, but that didn't mean she approved of it. "Polite isn't the same as charming."

"Yes, ma'am," Clint said. He had bruises all along his right forearm and he was laughing at her and three months ago he'd been sent to kill her.

Why This Must Be Read: Again, this is another fic about Natasha realizing her feelings for Clint, but it's SO much more than that. It's really a character piece on Natasha, and the slow unfurling of her new life with SHIELD. Nice cameos with Steve and Pepper, as well as great touches of humor sprinkled throughout the fic.

Fandom Category: The Avengers
Pairing: Darcy Lewis/Steve Rogers
Fic Title: The Bubble
Author: boombangbing
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): Sex.
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: This is Darcy/Steve with resolved sexual tension and it's DELIGHTFUL. Darcy brings Steve home to meet her parents. It's adorable.
