Why This Must Be Read: I really love a good Amanda/Sarek origin story, and along with StarTrekFanWriter's "The Native" and Notesfromtheclassroom's "The Prodigal Son" (both of which have been recced here) this is one of my absolute favorites. This story has Sarek and Amanda meeting for the first time on Vulcan, where Amanda is part of an experimental cultural exchange. Amanda is young, eager, intelligent, and totally confused by the young ambassador's hot and cold behavior. Sarek is also portrayed as being young, and his initial reaction to being attracted to a human is...not positive. George and Winona Kirk (pre-marriage) also make welcome appearances. Lovely writing and sympathetic characters make this a wonderful read. The author is taking November off to participate in NaNoWriMo, but I have no reason to think she won't return to this story soon.

Prodigal Son by Notesfromaclassroom (PG-13)

Fandom Category: Startrek 2009
Pairings/Characters: Spock/Uhura, Sarek/Amanda, Sybok, Kirk, McCoy, T'Pol
Fic Title: Prodigal Son
Author: Notesfromaclassroom
Rating/Warning: PG-13
Genre: Romance/Family/Action Adventure
WIP: No

Summary: On a desolate planet a Vulcan rebel hears a telepathic scream and knows he must return to his home world…no matter the cost. He puts the honor of his family in jeopardy, but sometimes, to confront the future, you have to confront your past.

Why this Must Be Read: Despite the summary this story is filled with fluffy romantic goodness and FUN. The story’s “future” revolves around the return of Sybok. The story’s past deals with how Amanda/Sarek first became a couple. The “future” is tense and action packed, the “past” is sometimes fluffy, often funny, and very touching.

It is one of Notes best stories, and if you read her work you know that is saying something.

Dexterity, by leupagus, screamlet, and waldorph (PG-13)

Fandom Category: Star Trek (2009)
Pairing: Amanda Grayson/Sarek, Winona Kirk/George Kirk
Fic Title: Dexterity
Author: leupagus, screamlet, and [livejournal.com profile] waldorph
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/95494
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13 for language and naughtiness and hints of femslash
Genre: Fluff, humor, pre-ship
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Personally, I think this is one of the best pre-ship stories ever! I love stories that portray Sarek and Amanda's first meeting, and this one is one of the best. I absolutely adore the light and humorous take on the characters, especially Winona and Amanda. Winona is driving George completely bonkers, and Amanda shocks everyone by having the guts to actually stand up to Sarek. What's not to love?

Two McCoy/Chapel recs!

Fandom Category: Star Trek: Reboot
Pairing: Christine Chapel/Leonard McCoy, Nyota Uhura/Spock
Fic Title: The World Throws Its Light
Author: [livejournal.com profile] seren_ccd

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13.
Genre: Adventure, Romance, Friendship, Suspense
WIP?: Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's got pretty much everything. This is the third in the author's "Going Down To Georgia" series, and it really takes things out with a bang. I kept meaning to rec this (and have no excuse for not doing so earlier). It's just such a fun romp that's laced with suspense and awesome. Mind you, I think [livejournal.com profile] seren_ccd is completely incapable of telling a bad story, so I might be a smidge biased.

Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, AU.
Genre: Alternate Universe, Romance, kidfic.
WIP?: Complete!

Why This Must Be Read: A not-so-secret fact about me is that I adore romance novels. All types, but there is ALWAYS a special place in my heart for Regencies. This is a reimage of the Reboot Crew in almost-not-quite Victorian England, and is chuck full of formal language, people falling in love, and Joanna McCoy being adorable. In my opinion, Reboot can NEVER have too much Joanna McCoy. Add on that [livejournal.com profile] fringedweller is such a great author? And this is nothing but sublime.

Star Trek red: Dexterity

Fandom Category: Star Trek (2009 movie)
Pairing: Amanda Grayson/Sarek, pre-Winona/George Kirk
Fic Title: Dexterity
Author: leupagus, screamlet, waldorph
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/95494
Rating/Warning(s): Teen and Up (on AO3), for swearing and a lot of talk about sex, sometimes with aliens.
Genre: Romance, episodic/adventure/mission
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's awesome?  Seriously, this one-shot packs an entire world and series of events into less than 8,000 words.  It's hilarious, detailed, and thoughtful.  The characters are fully fleshed-out and get a plot that keeps you genuinely interested alongside the character interactions.  I enjoyed this fic so much that I went back digging for it a second time, and re-read it a third while reccing it just now.

In terms of summary, the authors say this: "Detailing one of Amanda Grayson's first diplomatic assignments, which happens to be on the USS Kelvin."

Challenge 55: Star Trek 2009 Rec

Fandom Category: Star Trek (2009 Film)
Pairing: Sarek/Amanda Grayson
Fic Title: The Native
Author: StarTrekFanWriter
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5566846/1/The_Native
Rating/Warning(s): T -- It does get steamy in later chapters!
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No, it's complete

Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my all-time favorite Sarek/Amanda Grayson origin stories. They start off on the wrong foot, then slowly a friendship develops that turns into something more. Both are totally in character, and the development of their relationship is believable.

Shipper Manifesto: Sarek/Amanda Grayson, Star Trek

Fandom: Star Trek
Pairing: Sarek/Amanda

Why I love this pairing to teeny tiny pieces:  Sarek and Amanda, for the unitiated, are the parents of Spock. Amanda is a teacher, and Sarek is the Vulcan Ambassador to Earth.  As recurring characters in both TOS, TAS, TNG, AOS, and a number of the movies, they have just enough backstory to create fertile ground for further offscreen adventures. I adore them because they have a mature relationship that has obviously survived a lot of rough patches. They are both stubborn and passionate and often disagree on things (mostly involving Spock), but remain committed to each other. Their differences in personality and high-profile relationship make them perfect for everything from serious plotty fic to domestic fluff and comedic stories based on the inevitable culture clashes that will come from pairing a human and a Vulcan.

and now, the fic! )
