Why This Must Be Read:

The BEST post series finale story! It's amazing, even for the Ryan/Marissa fans, I assure you! It's so in character and so real that you'll want to read this again and again. It's angsty and sweet and emotional and sad and  perfect. Just that, PERFECT.

Why This Must Be Read: Firstly XWaltzforVenusX is probably the BEST author around for this pairing - she gets all the nuances of those crazy characters downright perfect and natural. In a twist of fate, Veronica sent Taylor to a boarding school, so Taylor never met the gang until she attends Berkeley and becomes teaching assistant to Professor Sandy Cohen. Obviously, Ryan and taylor slowly but leisurely gravitate toward each other. Yet,getting together is far from being the difficult part. The hardship comes after, because even while being a couple comes rather naturally to them, Ryan and Taylor have their different and heavy load of emotional baggage to hinder them on the way to happiness. And so, you get a wonderful portrayal of Ryan inner traumas and Talor's quirky craziness. This story makes a wonderful job of reminding me why I miss this ship every time I read it.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a brief look at the first meetings of four of the show's couples, taking into account the show's own screwed-up timeline as best as possible and including plenty of details from canon. Sometimes sweet, sometimes bittersweet, each one is appropriate for its couple. Really fits into my own head canon. My personal favorite is the last one (Sandy and Kirsten), but it's tough call.

Why This Must Be Read: I loved Taylor Townsend and when the show paired her up with Ryan in season 4, it was like a gift to me. This fic however takes place before season four, in the summer after the finale of season 3, making this an AU. It doesn't shy away from mentioning Marissa and does an honestly lovely job of putting Ryan and Taylor in a realistic situation where you can see the possibility that this couple could be.

Rating/Warning(s): K+ / mentions of canon character death

Why This Must Be Read: Because it respects the fact that for better or worse Ryan Atwood loved Marissa Cooper; acknowledging the feelings that one part of your one true pairing has for someone else tends to be touch and go in fandom (isn't that an understatement). The hurt, anger, and eventual numbness that Ryan feels as he deals with Marissa's death brings a realism that most authors are not able to insert in their fics. The slow way that Taylor is able to help Ryan starting living again, is beautifully done.
