Fandom Category: Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Pairing: Elinor Dashwood/Colonel Brandon
Fic Title: Sense and Sense
Author: Dragonfly
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/140993
Rating/Warning(s): Teen
Genre: AU
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: For Challenge 59. First of all I have to admit as much as I love dear Miss Austen's work, I think she got the pairings mixed up in S&S. Or maybe it's just that I saw the 1995 Ang Lee movie version before I read the book and I can't help thinking that Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson had way more chemistry together than they did with anyone else. Whatever the case, I've always felt that Elinor and the Colonel were much more suited to one another and that in the long run Marianne would not have been happy with Colonel Brandon.

This fic is a lovely little AU taking place after the book in which a series of unfortunate events conspire to unite Elinor and Brandon. It is a logical extension of the novel/movie and the characterizations are right on target. This fic is even more wonderful to me because Elinor and Brandon fic is so, so very rare.

Fandom Category: Buffy: the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Tara Maclay/Spike
Fic Title: Ogden Nash Blues
Author: Anne Hedonia, author’s own site
Link: http://anne-hedonia.com/wordpress/buffy/ogden-nash-blues/
Rating/Warning(s): R, language, sexual situations
Genre: Humour, romance
WIP?: No - one-shot
Special rec: 21/31
Author’s Summary: Spike has a gambling problem. It’s not what you think.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a Tara and Spike romance. With kittens. Need I say more? It’s funny, clever and really very believable. I adored Tara and always enjoy fics that draw on her inner strength and intelligence. Spike is just wonderful.

Fandom Category: The West Wing
Pairing: Josh/Donna, Ainsely Hayes/Sam Seaborn, CJ/Toby, OFC/OFC
Fic Title: White House or Bust
Author: Puck and Zillah
Link: http://web.archive.org/web/20030806030606/www.puckandzillah.com/whb.html
Rating/Warning(s): Pg - NC17, swearing somewhat graphic descriptions of sex (it's pretty light, as far as NC17 goes). Also lesbianism and politics.
Genre: Romance, comedy, drama...just like the real west Wing.
WIP?: Not really. It's a series and it says 'coming soon' but that was like 8 years ago.

Summary: Jed Bartlet didn't run for President in 1998, so the gang never got together. In this, they find their way together for Bartlet's campaign in 2002 from various different life places. as we go along the campaign, couples get together, break up, make up, and educate the cutest little girl ever.

Why This Must Be Read: Puck and Zillah are the one two punch that every West wing fic should aspire to. They've got the dialogue style so perfect and they're not afraid to complicate things or to simplify them whenever need be. They write extremely well together. This is a hilarious, touching, and totally charming ride that wills weep you away.

Fandom Category: Last of the Mohicans
Pairing: Alice/Uncas, Cora/Nathanial
Fic Title: Into the Forest
Author: SoloWraith
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4905207/1/Into_The_Forest
Rating/Warning(s): T/PG-13
Genre: Adventure/Romance, Alternate Ending
WIP?: The original fic and it's sequel, Beyond The River, are completed. A third installment, Through The Rain, within the 'verse is underway.

Why This Must Be Read: For Challenge 59. It's stories like this that almost make up for the fact that the fandom for this movie is so unfortunately small. The author takes the movie from nearly the beginning and retells key scenes from the perspective of two very different sets of siblings, and the reader really gets to see all of them change and grow over the course of the three stories. The author's Alice is different from the quiet, differing young girl show cased in the movie- here, the canon Alice that chooses her own ending at the close of the movie is present from the very get go, and her voice and perspection of events is exceptionally clear. By Beyond The River, the narrative moves on from where the movie would have left off; Alice/Uncas and Nathanial/Cora are well defined and difficulties both pairings (and especially the first) aren't shied away from at all within these stories in a realistic manner. Love may well be patient as well as kind, but that doesn't make it any easier for these characters.

Her doubt was heart-wrenching, because he knew, as sure as he was of his own desire to keep her at his side, if he thought that she wanted to return with her sister to the city, he would take her. It was impossible to bind a person to one with one's own feelings alone. Day cannot dwell with night. His father's words returned, unbidden, to his mind. Perhaps he was a fool to be even considering this. Not that he doubted his own ability to look after her, or even to do all the extra work that a untaught woman would mean; but what if she changed her mind?

He suddenly wondered what a child of theirs would look like. Maybe it would have her grey eyes. His dark hair. Uncas realized that such a child would not be fully accepted either into his society or hers-as he knew Nathaniel, despite all appearances to the contrary, had never been fully accepted by some-and the thought made him feel sick.

Fandom Category: Twilight
Pairing: Jacob/Bella
Fic Title: The Movement of the Earth
Author: [livejournal.com profile] audreyii_fic
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): T
Genre: Supernatural, Romance, Drama, General
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: This is literally one of the best fics I've ever read. Period. The author started the story with the purpose of changing one event in 'New Moon' and then rewrote the book from there on out, while attempting to write as SMeyer did. I'd say she failed that last part, if only because this is actually well written and the characters are likeable. Audreyii_fic believably evolves Bella into a character that you actually want to root for; one that stands up for herself, makes jokes, and doesn't complain 24/7. By the time the climax of the plot arrives (which it actually does in this fic, unlike in the actual book), you're genuinely worried for the characters' safety. Basically, after you read this, you're going to want to rip out the last half of your 'New Moon' book and paste this in instead.

Fandom Category: Community
Pairing: Jeff/Britta
Fic Title: Doesn't Mean I'm In Love Tonight
Author: faded_facade
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/il_faut/29775.html
Rating/Warning(s): pg-13
Genre: post-ep, 2.15 "Early 21st Century Romanticism"
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: So, who here loves Jeff/Britta fics? *cough* This fic goes off the fandom convention that Jeff and Britta have been secretly doing friends-with-benefits sexin'. A large majority of S2 eps have had these really subtle hints that this could be a possibility, and how much do I love that someone in the Britta/Jeff fandom went and wrote fic for it? Perfectly in character, with banter and innuendo.
