Why This Must Be Read: This series leaves me absolutely breathless and is one of my all-time favorite Syd/Sark stories. The characterization is fantastic--the author is unflinching in her portrayal of these ruthless, complex, and morally gray super spies. Highly recommended.

Fic Title: It Lies In Weakness
Author: Mistiec
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1580851/1/It-Lies-In-Weakness
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, brain-washing (this is a season 3 AU after all)
Genre: Drama, AU post-season 2
WIP?: No
Summary: No one could truly understand why the devil in angel's clothing, suddenly became a guardian angel in Lucifer's guise.
Why This Must Be Read: This is the first rec in the long line of many season 3 AUs. If you are familiar with the show, you'll understand why most J/I shippers (and other Alias fans) try to remove anything after season 2 from their minds. This is an awesome AU which goes into what happened during the missing 2 years and how J/I were working together to find Sydney.

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, character deaths
Genre: Angst, romance, drama
WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read: This is an AU in the sense that the finale never happened (and who doesn't wish it never did, uh?). It's a beautiful fic that offers five different ends for our Spyrents. It made me want to rewatch s2 and the other episodes with Irina, and to hunt for websites from back in the day (but of course they disappeared). Just a slight warning: tissues are needed for some parts. ;)

Why This Must Be Read: Because she's awesome. No, seriously, she is. So go read NOW. In all seriousness though, when you read a fic by Yahtzee not only you get the feeling that she thinks long and hard about the story she's telling, but it makes you think, and it makes you wonder what could have been, and it makes you see the characters you're reading about in a new light. Her stories sometimes make me want to cry, and sometimes they make me laugh out loud, but always, always, make me want more.

Why This Must Be Read: Aside from pairing up two of the greatest badasses of the last decade? It's how perfectly you can see this happening for both canons. The CIA would totally send Syd in for Jack, and Jack would be in that sort of danger.

Author’s Summary: A symbol of death and paradise – a man whose motives are tightly guarded – and a woman who allows both to play with her mind.
Why This Must Be Read: This story is THE definition of UST. The imagery is gorgeous along with the dialogue. Sark is wonderfully laconic and Sydney is fantastic. You feel every single moment of this story.

Why This Must Be Read: Long Irina Derveko-centric fic that explores her past and future. It paints Irina in such gorgeous strokes, capturing her characterization and motivations so deftly. This is Irina Derveko, in all her glory. Her relationship with Jack, and Sydney and Nadia, and her own sisters, are all wonderfully drawn. The beginning quote is just so appropriate.

Rating/Warning(s): NC17
Genre: Action-adventure/Romance
WIP?: Yes, but at a whopping 42 chapters, you won't feel cheated; plus, by the time it stops, you'll have a pretty good idea of where it was going and that everything would be okay for these crazy kids.
Why This Must Be Read: Set in a season 3 AU, this fic does the best job I've ever seen of blending gripping drama with non-cracky, realistic hilarity. The Sydney (3rd person) POV voice is spot-on and that of a real woman. The snarky banter between Sark and Sydney is a dream. She doesn't woobify Sark's character; he's still an insufferably smug bastard, but oh-so appealing, and you get why Sydney is simultaneously disgusted by and attracted to him. (She also includes my personal idea that underneath the smooth spy exterior, he's just a little bit socially awkward). The missions they go on are really well-done, the sexytimes are very sexy, and the romantic angst is delicious. It's loooooong, but you'll be unable to stop reading, so make sure you have at least a free hour. If you liked Alias, I promise this will make your week. :-)

Special Rec: 7/31
Why This Must Be Read: Unfortunately, this story (novella?) is no longer available on the web. Thanks to the Wayback Machine, however, this doesn't mean it's lost forever. Set early on in the series, this is a what if that probably crossed everyone's minds at least once -- what would have happened if Sydney was compromised by SD6? Lara takes that what if and shows us how Vaughn handles losing his Bristow unexpectedly, and the choices he makes thereafter.
What Julia Knew by Yahtzee
Mar. 25th, 2010 11:46 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Pairing: Sydney Bristow/Will Tippin
Fic Title: What Julia Knew
Author: Yahtzee
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/33108?view_full_work=true
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17 for violence, sex and mentions of sexual abuse
Genre: Drama, Angst
WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read:
This is an AU in which instead of Will going into witness protection, he chooses to become a full agent. Sydney, who is pretending to be Julia Thorne, sees him on a mission - and this changes the course of events completely as she gets back in touch with him and with her father.
Sydney in this story is very, very screwed up. The false memories given to her as part of her conditioning include alternative identities for her parents and many of her friends - portraying them as villians so that if she ever saw them she would kill them. While she knows these memories are false, she has trouble coping with them. The only person untainted by these memories is Will, and he becomes her main support.
The story can be quite dark and upsetting, but it's also gripping, well-written, and the pairing works really perfectly. Around 40,000 words in length, it's one of the most memorable Alias stories I have read.

Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: romance, angst, highschool (trust me, it works)
WIP?: nope
Why This Must Be Read: If you only read one Lauren/Sark fic in your life, this should be it. It's just so perfect for them. This a "high school" fic, but it's so completely set in the show's verse that it can easily be transformed into personal canon. The Lauren and Sark we see here are young and a little less tainted by the spy world, but not by much. Lovely prose, great story telling, and some hot sex.

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Angst? (None actually listed)
WIP?: No.
Why This Must Be Read: I love angst, and I love Lauren/Sark, so this piece is a personal favourite. For me, despite it being short, it perfectly captures Lauren's conflict, and the underlying emotions between her and Sark that they refuse to really confront. Just beautiful ♥.

Fic Title: Uninvited and RSVP
Author: Ossian

WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read: Because it's hilarious and snarky and light-hearted and literate. "Uninvited" includes three chapters in which Syd and Sark collide post-mission; in "RSVP," the fourth and final piece in the series, they meet by invitation. Sort of. About 25000 words total.

Why This Must Be Read: The cast of Alias in an Ocean's 11-style casino heist. The story is told from multiple points of view, unfolding the plan piece by piece, keeping you guessing, and leaving you laughing. A fun read that'll make you miss Alias and its brilliant characters.
