Why This Must Be Read: "Some nights I dream I'm back in the cupboard". This manages to be erotic, claustrophobic, and pulse-pounding in so short a time, and focuses on Belle's emotions after marriage, after they've all been transformed back, and how it relates to her attitude toward the marriage bed. Written for Porn Battle several years ago, this still sticks with me as being impactful and erotic, all in under 300 words.

Why This Must Be Read: Willing to try anything to be normal, Tris hides her powers and her name to go to Lightsbridge. But of course the life she's chosen is not without its own perils... Will she be able to survive when her new life demands she give up everything she once was?

During Will of the Empress, Tris reveals to the rest of the Circle that she wants to attend Lightsbridge. This has spawned many fics based on the idea, and in my opinion, this is easily the best. The cast of characters are well developed enough you love them even as you want to shake some sense into them, the plot is engrossing, the character development on everyones' parts is very well done, and, of course, the cameos from the rest of the Circle gives it a nice touch. Tris herself is just perfect, in between her cynical view of the world, her wisdom from experience, and her insecurities.

This is a beautiful fic that is set post 'The Reichenbach Fall' and it deals with Watson's reaction to what happened in the episode. The OC is great, I love her quite a lot, and the relationship is really believable. You'll need tissues here and there, because this is not a happy fic at times.

Why This Must Be Read: First off, this is an EPIC length Sky High fic, which is practically impossible to find. I like how the author shows the characters dealing with the fallout of homecoming as well as the knowledge that just defeating the villain once doesn't mean the trouble is over. Smart villains always have backup plans, and this is an intriguing journey centered on Warren in particular as the group works to become the heroes they are supposed to be. The romance is slow in building, but it will happen!

This was the first fic that really explored some of the same thoughts tumbling in my head over the less-than-stellar work being done by the adults at Hogwarts. Why was everything being done by a kid? It's good to read fic about fascinating side characters. ^^

Why This Must Be Read: This story breaks from canon after In My Time of Dying, and explores the life that Dean makes for himself after an accident leaves him with no memory of who he is or where he came from. This fic could fall victim to a number of cliches that plague fandom, including the ol' amnesia plot and kidfic, but this story is thoughtful, well-crafted, and just beautiful. The OFC, Sally, is smart and strong and flawed enough to be realistic. And, really, I'm a sucker for any story where the Winchesters get anything approaching a happy ending.

Dean and Eva are whole persons unto themselves yet they are better together as they go about a day in the life and finally give into the pull between them.

nyoka's OFC are always fabulous, but Eva is one of the best OFC I've read in fan fiction because she's everything special and yet entirely relateable.

Why This Must Be Read: So this is the 3rd time I've rec'd Min's work on this comm ~~I regret nothing!~~ but this fit so well with the current challenge that I couldn't NOT rec it. This is a power swap AU of X-Men 1 so everyone (except Professor X) has someone else's power. In this story Jean has Mystique's mutation and fights on Magneto's side, while Scott has Cypher's mutation, which allows him to learn, understand, and speak any kind of language (e.g. spoken language, body language, computer language, etc.). He's also deaf. It is so, so fascinating to see how these fundamental changes in mutation/ability shape both Jean and Scott. They're so different to their canon counterparts, but at the same time, the core of each of these characters remains. It includes an excellent and sensitive portrayal of living with a hearing disability, as well as a rousing and impassioned defense of diversity, tolerance, and compassion delivered by Scott to the Senate during the hearing about the Mutant Registration bill. So. Good. Go read it! Now!

Why This Must Be Read: This is a lush, history-rich continuation of the Narnia series, with Peter fighting behind enemy lines in France during WWII. The use of mythology here is just stunning, as are the connections from our world to Narnia. I'm normally skeptical of original characters in fanfiction, but Marie (the OFC here) is wonderfully written and serves a very distinct purpose in the story. Beautiful and poignant, this is a story that has stuck with me ever since I read it.

"But Narnia is my world!" Peter retorted, resisting the urge to kick a stone like the child to whose body he would be returned.

The god frowned and Peter heard a roll of thunder and a cracking of artillery shells with his disapproval. "Aslan belongs to many worlds, High King, and I as well. If you are able to give your love to only one place, you are not the man I thought."

What would have happened if just the right woman had met Remus Lupin? How would they have shaken up the Wizarding World? This series has become so popular that other authors are writing AUs of this AU and asking to do crossovers! If you enjoy Harry Potter, give her a chance you won't be sorry!
