Here we go - a whole month in one post. There's a few days missing because I just didn't have anything good enough to rec or because everything in that category was already on the site.

The tags are gonna be madness!

Day 01 - A fic for your current favorite ship )

Day 02 - A fic for your very first ship )

Day 03 - A fic for UST )

Day 04 - A fic that demonstrates how a pairing with little canon romantic chemistry/interaction can totally work )

Day 05 - A fic with the best kiss/sex scene )

Day 06 - A fic with the most heartbreaking scene )

...and the rest )

Ah, here is the last of my special recs for August.  I apologize for the lateness and cut it down to 21 but tried to keep a variety of fandoms and ships at least.  I'm glad I got to share some of my favorites!

Fandom Category: Downton Abbey
Pairing: Mary Crawley/Matthew Crawley
Fic Title: You & Me of the 10,000 Wars
Author: allthingsholy
Link: http://allthingsholy.livejournal.com/158762.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13 (R in later chapters)
Genre: Drama, Romance
WIP?: Yes

Special Rec: 16/21

Why This Must Be Read: This is a modern AU where Downton Abbey becomes Downton Industries.  There are only two chapters thus far (out of a projected four), but I’m already completely taken by this author’s absolutely brilliant characterization of Mary -- a woman who can play the part of the perfect, proper eldest daughter to the tee when needed but also rejects the role, a woman who in one sense loves the glamour of the lifestyle she leads even as she cannot bear its superficiality.  Everyone else is also thoughtfully portrayed, and the writer has creatively and smoothly adapted Downton Abbey to the 21st century.

Fic Title: This Is Your 3 a.m. Wakeup Call (or Five Six Times Olivia Wakes Peter in the Middle of the Night)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lone_pyramid a/k/a Shane Vansen
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/125358
Rating/Warning(s): Rated G, no warnings
Genre: UST / Fluff / Friendship / Romance
WIP?: Nope

Why This Must Be Read: It's not what you think (points at the G rating.) It's better. Six lovely little snippets hinting at Olivia and Peter's burgeoning romance while their chaotic lives give Olivia six reasons to wake Peter up, and Peter six reasons to react to being woken up. This fic makes their romance comfortable and inevitable.

Pairing: Olivia Dunham/Charlie Francis
Fic Title: Over Before It's Begun
Author: [livejournal.com profile] nomelon
Link: here
Rating/Warning(s): R; canon character death
Genre: drama, five times, romance, what could have been
WIP?: No; 2,086 words.

Why This Must Be Read: Before I became a ridiculous Peter/Olivia fan, I loved the idea of Olivia and Charlie due to their easy friendship and snappy dialogue. This fic takes everything that early seasons gave us with regards to the individuals and extrapolates on what might have happened if Charlie and Olivia became romantic/sexual, and the results are steamy and bittersweet.

Special Recs: 22/25

Pairing: Olivia Dunham/Lincoln Lee, (some Olivia Dunham/Peter Bishop)
Fic Title: Easy

Rating/Warning(s): PG13 (rating by reccer), Spoilers through 4x03
Genre: Angst, romance
WIP?: Complete

Why This Must Be Read: A sort of post-ep to "Alone in the World" that deals with the eventual return of Peter. Well-written, excellent characterization, and an interesting look into the consequences of combining the timelines. Definitely worth a look.

One of the special requests was for Peter/Olivia, so I decided I'd fulfill that request seeing as I read entirely too much fic for this pairing. Hope everyone enjoys! =D

Rating/Warning(s): Spoilers 3.18, character death
Genre: Angst, romance
WIP?: complete

Why This Must Be Read: I know I just recc'd an AltLivia/Lincoln story, but after the last episode they're coming out all over and there is more awesome to be shared so I'm sharing it! This fic is wonderful. It covers the duration of their relationship and runs the gamut of emotions. Awesome characterization, fun banter, an enjoyable ride and a heartbreaking conclusion - just what I expect from the show. Definitely worth a read (or two)!

Pairing: (Alt)Olivia Dunham/Lincoln Lee
Fic Title: Unrequitedness
Author: [livejournal.com profile] hjea
Link: http://hjea.livejournal.com/178111.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG, Spoilers for 3.18
Genre: Episode tag, UST
WIP?: Nope

Why This Must Be Read: This ship has the potential to be so much fun. The characters already have such a solid friendship and excellent chemistry. I'm excited to see where the show takes them. This fic seems to flow seamlessly from the place where the characters are now - with Olivia and Lincoln being in completely different places, but still managing to maintain the strength of their relationship while dealing with the situation at hand. A great read!

Rating/Warning(s): M
Genre: angst, hurt/comfort
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: It's a slight cross-over with the Dark Tower series, but you don't need to have read those books to appreciate this beautiful fic (I haven't read DT myself). This fic diverges from the end of Season 2, and is just a lovely take on how Olivia and Peter might've found their way back from the Other Side together. The writing is so evocative, the characterizations are brilliant, and there's just something soft and gorgeous about the whole fic.

Peter misses the window, never crosses back over, and finally finds Olivia. She does her best to bring them both home. Neither of them had even considered that there were other worlds than theirs.

Due to work and family obligations, I've barely begun reading but I already have two terrific stories to rec here.

Edit: this post is being split at the request of the mods. So one now, one whenever I get a chance to do the second one.

Fandom Category: Fringe
Pairing: Olivia Dunham/Peter Bishop
Fic Title: 13 Ways of Looking at a Betrayal
Author: Anonymous until January 1.
Rating/Warning(s): Teen and up. No Archive Warnings Apply
Genre: I have no idea. Great fanfiction. Is that a genre? Wait. How about "short story"?
WIP?: No such thing at Yuletide, theoretically. 5,762 words, if such things matter.

Why This Must Be Read:

Summary:

Sometimes the crossing isn't as difficult as the arrival. (Spoilers through all aired episodes of Fringe.) Peter/Olivia UST.

I've read all of the Fringe stories posted to Yuletide this year. All are well worth reading if you are a fan of the show. "13 Ways of Looking at a Betrayal" is worth taking a look at even if you're not. It might be the best season three story I've read to date. Oh, heck, it might be the best Fringe story I've ever read. Perfect character voices for everyone, case files deftly woven into the story, humor and angst, cultural references galore to everything from the Wallace Stevens poem the title is taken from to the Alfred Hitchcock film, "The Birds."

Huddling in the house as the waves of angry birds attack, Olivia checks her clip. She's got six shots left, which is as useless as none. The thud thud thud is like the pounding of the surf. "Who takes their animal experimentation cues from Hitchcock?" she wonders as another windowframe splinters and the glass bursts inward. She and Peter scramble across the floor, ending up in a poorly reinforced closet lit only by the light spilling through the cracks at the top and bottom of the doors. Women's suits, smelling of dry cleaning fluid, take up most of the space.

Peter pants, then: "There's also an iPhone app. That might be the reference. Nobody knows the classics these days." As if reminded, he pulls his phone out and checks the signal again, then shakes his head, barely visible in the glow of the screen.

Toward the end of that section, there's a sly reference to "The Pied Piper," too.

But underlying the sophisticated structure and language, it's the story of Olivia's emotion journey as she struggles to come to terms with what happened with Peter and her counterpart while she was trapped on the other side. There's a hopeful ending, oh, and did I mention it's even Christmas fic?

Rating/Warning(s): M/NC-17
Genre: Romance
WIP?: Yes.

Why This Must Be Read:I bet everyone is following this one and if not, well then I don't know what you are waiting for. Hurry up and go start reading, it wil blow your mind. It a post Jacksonville fic so it's kind of out of canon now but good how I hope things have gone this way and not the way we saw on the show... Anyway the author deals with Olivia getting her "powers" back and how they all go about it. And the athour has the characters down perfectly, their voices are spot on. I don't have the right words to explain just how wonderful this fic is. One of my two favourites fanfics on the fandom.

Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: Episode related, ansgt
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is both beautifully complex and beautifully simple. The emotion (and romance?), though subtle is lovely and genuine. Olivia's struggle with her memories, with herself, and with the two universes is expressed with such depth, and such vivid feeling, it's amazing.

Fic Title: The Academy
Author: The-back-drop

Rating/Warning(s): T
Genre: Friendship/Romance/Drama
WIP?: Yes (but the author update fairly often)

Why This Must Be Read:It must be read because is one of the best Fringe fics out there. Seroiusly. It's AU-ish but even me and I'm not really into AU fics LOVE it. It's AU because the story happens years ago when Charlie and Olivia and John (and everyone else, really) are still on the Academy studying to become FBI agents. The author manages to keep the characters in character while still giving them a sense of that younger style. Besides, she also manages to get into her fic a LOT of things from the show itself, and not only the characters (even the least important ones) but conversations and past relationships and a whole lot of other things and she does it beautifully.

Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: Angst
WIP?: Complete. Companion fics: Home and Patterns.

Why This Must Be Read: A short piece that looks at our universe from Alt!Livia's point of view - her internal struggles and the way she views and relates with the people on this side.

Sometimes, when she’s thinking, she worries it’s too easy with Peter, the way they’ve fallen together. The other Olivia has the backstory, but here she has the relationship, and the territory is new for both of them. There aren’t really rules she needs to follow, and it leaves her unsettled, writing this story with him.

Rating/Warning(s): pg-13
Genre: AUs
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: This is an absolutely brilliant fic, exploring the idea of how Peter travels from universe to universe in his search for "his" Olivia, and on the way encounters worlds and alternate versions of people everywhere he goes. It is a great look at alternate universes, if you're a fan of them. And if you're a fan of Fringe, I'm presuming you are. Great Peter voice, but I'm more fascinated by the various Olivia. Also, you get great cameos by multiple Walters, Astrids, Charlies, Broyles, John Scotts, etc...
