Day 16 - An epic fic.

Fandom Category: Law and Order: Criminal Intent/Lie to Me
Pairing: Alex Eames/Bobby Goren
Fic Title: Demon Shadows
Author: InfinityStars
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, some violence
Genre: Drama, Romance
WIP?: Yes (but updated regularly)

Why This Must Be Read: First, the author have listed it as a crossover, and I've done the same here, but truth be told, the characters from Lie to Me don't come in until 50K words in. Second, there are a lot of epic fic for this pairing out there, but this is one of my favourite. InfinityStars really know how to write them in-character, and she's a great story-teller. She keeps us on the edge of our seats both with the main story, but also with Goren/Eames. It's an amazing fic, and I urge you to check her other stories. ;)

Why This Must Be Read: This is an adorable bit of fluff. Buffy gets to overhear a sweet moment between father and daughter. It gives you a look into a happy family with everyday troubles...even if mom and dad are heroes on the side.

Fic Title: In From The Cold
Author: JamiW & Mitzvahgirl
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): R
Genre: Crime, Romance, Angst
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: If you like well-written epic fanfictions, and you love Alex/Bobby, this fic is for you. This start at the end of Loyalty part 2, and covers the year or so between the departure of Alex and Bobby from the MCS and their return. I don't think this is how it will be played on the show, but it is how it should be played. This fic is just perfect! But I'd advise you to have a few hours ahead of you when you start reading this fic, because you won't be able to stop.

Fic Title: The Art of Being a Kept Woman
Author: B.Cavis, Author’s site
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1538186/1/The_Art_of_Being_a_Kept_Woman
Rating/Warning(s): T, language
Genre: Drama, UST, romance, humor
WIP?: No, but there are two sequels found on the author’s website: Shmuck(from Bobby’s POV) and Start.
Special rec: 13/31
Author’s Summary: Alexandra Eames: emotional bandage of the masses.

Why This Must Be Read: I love Alex’s inner voice here. It’s funny and snarky and more than just a little resigned. As the summary describes it: Alexandra Eames: emotional bandage of the masses. So, she decides to do something about it. The sequels are by turn, funny and then hot.

Fic Title: Equilibrium
Author: JeannieMac

Rating/Warning(s): Teen
Genre: Drama/Romance
WIP?: Complete

Why This Must Be Read: This is the absolute best post-ep fic for "In the Wee Small Hours" that I have ever read. JeannieMac captures the point-of-view of Eames so well that it just feels effortless. The established relationship doesn't feel contrived; in fact, I feel as if this is something that did happen on the show, but that the writers are keeping from us. I don't have enough wonderful things to say about this fic, except that it's a must-read.

Fic Title: Infinite Regress
Author: [livejournal.com profile] justanotherfic
Link: http://justanotherfic.livejournal.com/21978.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: angst, drama, character study
WIP?: no

Why this must be read:
There is no question that Bobby has issues, mostly to do with his inability to form lasting relationships (although that seems to be a problem for all the characters in the L&O-verse) with anyone other than Alex. This is a great character study where Bobby wonders why he can't love Alex, when really he should.  Even when she tells him about her feelings for him, Bobby is awkward and doesn't know how to reciprocate and remembers an old girlfriend saying you can't love someone until you love yourself. There is a wonderful detached feeling to this fic, which for me kind of represented Bobby's detachment from his feelings & the rest of the world

Fic Title: Quietly
Author: netherfield

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13; violence, mental illness (minor character), spoilers for LO:CI season 4.
Genre: Casefile, introspection, action/adventure, and romance.
WIP?: Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: There are a handful of stories I'd consider the ultimate creme de la creme of Law and Order: Criminal Intent stories. This is the best of them. Not only do we have a decent case - which ends up rather epic in scope - but it's built on an unbelievably strong character sketch of Alex. It's also beautifully realistic in its realism when it comes to the romance between Alex and Bobby. There is no pretty white-wash on these people. They're both damaged in very different ways, but they do love each other; and that absolutely shines on the page. Moreover, reading prose by netherfield is like walking into and through a painting. The words evoke such a visceral image but deliver it gently, and with such grace that by the end of it, you wish it was bound as a book so you could set it carefully on your bookcase to reread on another rainy day.
