WIP?: WORK IN PROGRESS
Why This Must Be Read: The strongest PAFT stories I've noticed are the self contained, drabbe-esque kinds. raspberryseedz's "Diggin Deeper" really captures the surefire personalities of Naveen and Tiana in snapshots from points during the film or their lives afterward (how Naveen deals with Tiana's career-driven mentality that often leads to sleep deprivation and how Tiana relaxes in the presence of Naveen's carefree energy).

Why This Must Be Read: Tony discovers the Home Shopping Network! Funny and with great conversations this fic feels as canon as the movies. I keep hoping the author will write the next part in the series. This reader is dying to know what Tony will try and purchase next.

Why This Must Be Read: I seriously LOVE the idea of Sheldon being obsessed with procreation. This fic has it all: wonderful Penny/Sheldon banter (and hints of a blossoming realtionship between the two), Sheldon babysitting, and a fun group dynamic. This continues to be one of my favorite Sheldon/Penny fics.

Pairing: Mazaki Anzu/Motou Yugi
Fic Title: Say Something
Author: Chibi's Sister
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3912678/1/Say-Something
Rating/Warning(s): K
Genre: Romance/Drama
WIP?: No. Completed at 65,000 words.

Why This Must Be Read: Anzu thinks she has everything she's ever wanted in life... until she gets invited to Yugi's wedding. Priorities and past feelings abound. It's really an ensemble story (with background Rebecca/Yugi, Serenity/Tristan, Joey/Mai and a surprise pairing), and I love that the author uses the opportunity to showcase everyone's friendships and different voices. The core triangle isn't annoying, either, but fully realised and sympathetic to everyone involved -- not to mention featuring some of the best writing I've ever read, in the sense that it rings so true to life. I cannot recommend this story highly enough, or love this story more even if it had been written with one of my OTPs as the centre. It's that good.

Day 07 - A fic for a pairing with a lot of baggage.

Fandom Category: Twilight
Pairing: Bella Swan/Jacob Black
Fic Title: No Good Deed
Author: MeraNaamJoker
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8357521/1/No-Good-Deed
Rating/Warning(s): M/R. Warnings for language and sexual content
Genre: Breaking Dawn AU
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Anyone familiar with Twilight knows that to say Bella and Jacob have a lot of baggage is an understatement. In this AU, Bella doesn't become a vampire--she divorces Edward and leaves the Cullens to raise her baby on her own after Edward tries to abort the pregnancy against her wishes. 8 years later, a posthumous letter from Edward comes to his daughter--now named Saisha--imploring her to convince Bella to reconcile with Jacob since his actions have caused the both of them so much pain. This is actually a really thoughtful story, with a much more mature and confident Bella--one who recognizes her mistakes, owns up to them, and is willing to tackle her issues with Jacob in a reasonable and adult fashion. Jacob, while understandably resentful at first, is similarly able to put aside his own anger and meet her halfway to work things out. Of course, things hardly go smoothly and the author doesn't just ignore the issue of imprinting, choosing to address and resolve it in a very interesting way.

* Day 01 - A fic for your current favorite ship.

Fandom Category: 30 Rock
Pairing: Liz Lemon/Jack Donaghy
Fic Title: In for a Penny
Author: [livejournal.com profile] nutkin
Link: http://nutkin.livejournal.com/69409.html
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Commedy, Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: I have always loved the idea of Jack/Liz on 30 Rock and since it is coming back for its last season I picked them for my favorite ship. This fic is funny and hot, not an easy feat to pull off. The dialogue is whip smart and the characterizations are perfect. I can't help but hope that something like this will happen in the show. (Even though Tina Fey says it never will. You have to love that so many people have asked about a Jack/Liz romance, right?)

* Day 02 - A fic for your very first ship.
Fandom Category: St. Elmo's Fire
Pairing: Wendy Beamish/Billy Hicks
Fic Title: Our Time on the Edge
Author: monimala
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/454770
Rating/Warning(s): Mature
Genre: Angst, Romance
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: It was so hard to pick my very first ship, it's hard to recall when I started shipping. I'm guessing it was in the 80's and involved brat pack movies. I always wondered what happened to the characters in St. Elmo's Fire. Did they stay in touch, were they still friends years later, and did anyone end up together? This fic answers many questions while giving us a brief glimpse of Wendy's life. It tells the story of a chance meeting of Wendy and Billy years after the movie ends and shows us that as Wendy grew up, she never outgrew her first love. I'm so happy someone wrote about these two reconnecting again and it is a lovely story.

Fic Title: Liberation
Author: mrstate
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/219227
Rating/Warning(s): Mature, sex
Genre: post-film. drama/romance
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: 1945-1995: History, and loving two men, shape the girl Raven into the woman Mystique. I believe someone from last month's special requests wanted Raven/Eric, and I just stumbled upon this awesome fic that does a great job of exploring Raven's relationship with both Eric and Charles, and it's lengthy and wonderfully in character. The author did a great job of fleshing out Raven/Mystique's character progression throughout the years, and how her relationship with each man was differing.

Rogue and Gambit authors, myself included, tend to write fusion fiction, sometimes without entirely intending it, but the main setting/s for each story below is/are included next to the title. Rating/Warning(s): R for language. Mentioned (canon) character death.
Genre: Angst
WIP?: Nope, oneshot

Why This Must Be Read: This is hands down my favourite fanfic in all of the X-Men's various fandoms. Set after the events of X-2, Scott does his best to cope with his loss. You know the one. [livejournal.com profile] ridesandruns is probably best known for the witty, funny dialogue in her fanfics, but here she takes a different angle and delves into Scott's head. It's features a very powerful Scott voice, beautiful framing using his horses, and it has made me cry every single time I read it. It's definitely worth your time to read.

Why This Must Be Read: This story is the X3 movie we should have gotten. Marie's characterisation is wonderful, the perfect continuation of the person we saw in the first two movies (honestly, I get chills just reading her shout of, "can anybody fly?" -- just perfect) and the promise of something more between her and Logan is wonderfully subtle. An excellent AU.

Rating/Warning(s): T/PG-13
Genre: AU, Power swap
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: So this is the 3rd time I've rec'd Min's work on this comm I regret nothing! but this fit so well with the current challenge that I couldn't NOT rec it. This is a power swap AU of X-Men 1 so everyone (except Professor X) has someone else's power. In this story Jean has Mystique's mutation and fights on Magneto's side, while Scott has Cypher's mutation, which allows him to learn, understand, and speak any kind of language (e.g. spoken language, body language, computer language, etc.). He's also deaf. It is so, so fascinating to see how these fundamental changes in mutation/ability shape both Jean and Scott. They're so different to their canon counterparts, but at the same time, the core of each of these characters remains. It includes an excellent and sensitive portrayal of living with a hearing disability, as well as a rousing and impassioned defense of diversity, tolerance, and compassion delivered by Scott to the Senate during the hearing about the Mutant Registration bill. So. Good. Go read it! Now!

Rating/Warning(s): G-NC-17
Genre: Romance, Humor, Smut

Why This Must Be Read: [livejournal.com profile] thimble_kiss writes the best Viktor/Hermione fics in fandom, hands down. Her Viktor is a thing of beauty--complexity, subtlety, ambition, chivalry, compassion, and mischievousness, all wrapped up in a sexy, Bulgarian package that will make you swoon. She handles his accent with incredible skill; his dialogue has just enough stiltedness for verisimilitude, but it is never unreadable. And her prose. Dear god, her prose. It is out-of-this-world gorgeous. Aside from Viktor/Hermione, [livejournal.com profile] thimble_kiss writes a ton of HP rarepairs (her Hermione/Cormac fics have already been rec'd on this comm). And if you're a fan of Zacharias Smith, she is your girl. You cannot go wrong with this author. She'll make you sigh, swoon, squeal, and cry with every word she writes. In all seriousness though, when you read a fic by Yahtzee not only you get the feeling that she thinks long and hard about the story she's telling, but it makes you think, and it makes you wonder what could have been, and it makes you see the characters you're reading about in a new light. Why This Must Be Read: This fic is so incredibly gripping. Remy has escaped from the grips of Mr. Sinister after two years of captivity, but not without consequence. Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Romance, angst, movie verse
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: Set eight months after X Men 2, and it grows to incorporate elements of X Men 3. Long, awesome fic, with great characterization. The problem I have with most Storm/Wolverine fics I've seen, is something they demonize Jean's characterization in order to make way for the ship. Uncool. I like this story so much because it's got action, romance, but it's about how Wolverine and Storm grow together because they rely on each other. It's set before the awful (IMHO) X Men 3 movie, but it does deal with the return of Jean/Pheonix in its own way. All the characters are present and given life, and I spent an entire evening just consuming this fic while ignoring other more pertinent work. Can't rec it enough.

Why This Must Be Read: This is crazy awesome. Taking up a challenge to rewrite a series using another fandom, Tempest chose to rewrite Anita Blake using the X-men. Definitely recommend.
