For this only, it's completely in-character (because Castle can do that of course). It's funny, it's romantic, and I have to warn you that you'll tissues at one point. I can really see something like this happening in the show. The link is to part one, but there are links to other parts at the bottom of each chapter. ;)

Why This Must Be Read: Okay, usually I don't read character death fics; I'm in it for the happy endings. The promise of "one time he didn't", though, was enough to lure me in and so I gave it a shot, and yeah, this is a very well-written fic. It's going to tug at your heartstrings all over the place, but it's definitely worth it (just make sure you're in the right kind of mood, or have fluffy fic standing by as a remedy!). No real spoilers, IIRC. ~10K words.

It's so, so well done and the switch works amazing well with their characters.

It's not a Castle in the Sanctuary world, or Sanctuary in the Castle world kind of crossover: the shows are perfect equals, exactly what everyone loves in a crossover. This fic is just awesome, perfect even. And if you're of fan of both shows, let me tell you, you won't be able to stop reading it once you've started.

Why This Must Be Read: JillianCasey is one of my favorite authors in the Castle fandom, and this particular story might be my favorite of all time. I am a total Caskett shipper all the way, but ever since "Under the Gun" I had the sneaking suspicion that Beckett and Royce were more than rookie cop/training officer to each other, and this fic gives their relationship and romance a voice. Besides that, "younger Beckett" is really true to character. It's part romance, part origin story, and I think there's a lot to enjoy in this fic, even for the die-hard Caskett shippers. :) Happy reading!

Why This Must Be Read: This was the first Castle/Beckett fic I ever read that I knew I loved, and it stood out to me particularly for its characterization of Beckett. This is an AU post-episode for "Boom" which is one of my favorite episodes of the series by far. It mixes in some fun Castle family moments and great Beckett and Lanie friendship along with a very realistic take on a potential beginning for Castle and Beckett.
