Why This Must Be Read: Most Ahiru/Fakir post-canon fic involves Fakir's writing quest to turn her human again. What makes this fic stand out is that it's a comedy! Why DOES Fakir have to write a fairy tale, anyway? The fallout from his attempts with other genres make this fic particularly funny, complete with crop-circles, amnesia with convenient timing, and draft notices.

Why This Must Be Read: Pretty much everyone in Honey and Clover goes through emotional trauma, and Ayu endures more than her fair share. Her one-sided love for Mayama is difficult to witness through the early volumes...and then the playboy Nomiya enters the scene.

Nomiya became one of my favorite character in H&C, and I did end up shipping him with Ayu. Like canon, this fic is both touching and hilarious.

Why This Must Be Read: This epic-length Akane/Ranma story is definitely engrossing! Amusingly enough, Nabiki completely steals the show. I admire what the author did with Ryouga's characterization, in particular. However, the author does become rather fond of long descriptive paragraphs, and I ended up skimming the final third of the story, looking for plot. Still, it's quite enjoyable. This fic's Ranma can get slightly maudlin, but I felt it worked within the story. Yes, it is a old classic in Ranma fandom, but I'd have never known about it if I hadn't seen it recently mentioned elsewhere, and I'm passing on the love to other fans. ^^

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is an AU with a slightly older Kagome, who also has military training. It's interesting to see what that changes, and what it doesn't. The author has expanded the social aspects of canon, particularly between Inuyasha and his brother. The greatest changes are in the modern world, amusingly enough! This fic is less about fighting and more about characterization. Indeed, watching all the relationships develop and change between the characters is wonderful. Also, it has some amazing sex scenes. I never found them repetitive, and considering how many there are, that's really something. ^^ (For those who might be wondering, Rin is old enough before her and Sesshomaru's relationship turns romantic.)

Why This Must Be Read: This gripping fic is filled with beautiful winter imagery, and it's written in an informal, introspective first-person style that quickly sucks you in. Story-wise, Rin decides to spend some time alone by house-sitting a mansion on a private island...only she isn't alone. She's sharing the island with a mysterious and rather vicious white dog. I am quite pleased with how Fenikkusuken has written this fic, as the style and subject could easily be boring or outright maudlin. She handles it all with grace to give readers a lovely story!

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is a delightful and true addition to canon. It has great plotting, allusions to real-life historical events, and a surprising twist to a certain earnest character. In a fandom where every single character is crazy, I enjoyed the added insight for Jacuzzi and Nice's particular brands. The fic is even told in the same timeline-jumping style, only it has welcome headers at the start of each section to tell you when you are. ^^ It also passes the Bechdel Test!
