Why This Must Be Read: The fic is set throughout the year after the film. The style is gorgeous. It took me one or two sections to really get into it, but when it does click into place, it's brilliant. Pepper's characterisation is fantastic: capable, smart, funny, dry-witted and above all, this really portrays exactly how warm she is - even when she's pretending not to be and especially when she doesn't want to be. Tony is right on the money as well, and what I adored about this was the way Tony is presented initially as annoyingly immature, but the details around the dialogue flesh out the fact that he both is and isn't. This all sounds rather deep and all that, but what makes this fic one of my favourites is how it's all done: with a sense of humour and understated cuteness that makes it flow.

“He’s a doctor,” she finally concedes and Tony looks almost disappointed.

“Well, that’s… nice.”

“Yes.”

“A little bland though, if you ask me. I mean the long hours and the pay’s not that good. What kind of doctor is he, anyway?”

She replies, “Cardiac surgeon,” without missing a beat and kind of likes the way Tony looks almost beat at that.

In another world, with two different people, maybe it would have actually meant something.

“Tell me, Potts,” he begins, turning towards the mini bar, “what is it with women and doctors that throws them into a hormonal frenzy?”

Pepper shakes his head and watches the way his hands smooth over the glass tumbler as he pours a hefty amount of amber liquid into it. The straight line of his back.

Why this must be read: Another everyday mission to save the world... with a twist. I'm reccing it because I laughed out loud several times in the middle section. It's light-hearted, short and made me grin.

Tony landed by the pool of the David Citadel Hotel. Pepper had warned the staff about it, so there wasn't too much fuss. A tourist took a photo as Tony pulled off his helmet, and a few of the local Israelis were actually laughing at him.

Pepper was reclined on one of the pool chairs, wearing sunglasses and sipping a martini. She took one look at her boss, and then quickly handed it to him.
