Mazikeen isn't a character we often see vulnerable. Even when she's defeated physically, that iron core is still there. But this story does a great job of exploring Mazikeen when she breaks down, and Lucifer shows the side of him that we never get to see in the comics, except when it comes to her.

400 words or so on the bond between Lucifer and Mazikeen, with beautiful homage paid to Mazikeen's contradictions and the subtleties of their bond. It's just stunning.

Why This Must Be Read: Three times Lucifer and Mazikeen were happy, and one time they weren't.

My favourite thing about this story is that it captures the intensity of their bond, something that is always there in the background of the comics. There's a lovely outsider POV section, too, that answers some of the questions that were left, ahem, a non-answer in canon.

This is really a Mazikeen story dealing with the events of the series, but Lucifer's influence is felt throughout the fic. It is bitter and painful in that beautiful, exquisite way of certain stories, but captures Maz's voice very well.
