Why This Must Be Read: Because mylittleredgirl wrote it. Honestly, that's all you need to know to understand why this fic is automatically recommendable. This wonderful writer has written upwards of forty-something short fics for SGA, and the quality never diminishes. I started reading her work all the way back when the fandom first began, with her utterly fantastic
Suspension piece, and have been eagerly and obsessively and REPEATEDLY reading every other piece of works she's done since then.
"Veracity" takes the cake, because I have yet to find someone that can paint such a beautifully realistic portrait of the wonders and tribulations inherent in the Sheppard/Weir ship. It's not all sunshine and roses. It's not all instant clicking and understanding. There are going to be problems with two people as fundamentally different as Sheppard and Weir are when they get into a relationship. Problems in communication is a big one, but let's not overlook the serious issues they will encounter with the command structure. Mylittlered pulls no punches, and gives it to you strait. Yes, there are going to be problems . . . but then the way that Elizabeth and John deal with them -even half-fumbling through a haze of uncertainty and pain - makes it all worthwhile.
Elizabeth's POV is achingly flawless and genuine to the character. She sees John struggling after he's been through one of the worst experiences of his life - torture and imprisonment at the hands of an (original) enemy. It is, by far, the best hurt/comfort fic I have ever read, because it deals with all the emotional scars and ugly truths with such a deft hand and a beautiful end-message to take away.
