Fandom Category: The Phantom of the Opera
Pairing: Christine Daae/Raoul de Chagny; Christine/Erik, the Phantom of the Opera; Christine/OMC
Fic Title: Phantoms of the Past
Author: [livejournal.com profile] stefanie_bean
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2625688/1/
Rating/Warning(s): M for sexuality, violence, and intense images in later chapters.
Genre: Drama/Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: When it became clear that "Favorite Fics of All Time" was going to win the Two Year Anniversary Poll, I *knew* I had to recommend this fanfic. "Phantoms of the Past" is the best long-form fanfic I've read. In any fandom. Ever. I am not exaggerating (and I am not just saying this, because [livejournal.com profile] stefanie_bean is on my flist).

A mature, passionate Christine looks back on her life after Raoul has died, following their thirty-year marriage. Christine comes to terms with her relationships with both Raoul and Erik and looks with hope towards her future. If you only ever read one The Phantom of the Opera fic, *this* should be the one.

Fandom Category: The Patriot
Pairing: Col. William Tavington/OFC
Fic Title: Et in Arcadia Ego
Author: Arsinoe de Blassenville
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1560120/1/Et_In_Arcadia_Ego
Rating/Warning(s): M
Genre: Drama/Historical Romance
WIP?: Complete and Completely Awesome

Why This Must Be Read: The Tavington character in the movie was OOT!Eebil and unbelievable, despite the luvverliness of Jason Isaacs' portrayal.  In Arsinoe's hands, his actions are sympathetic and even make sense!  And don't be frightened by the OFC; the character comes across as a believable woman of her era.  She isn't a modern superheroine, beloved of all, nor is she anyone's victim.  The relationship between the two characters is touching and romantic.  The supporting characters, both canon and original, are wonderfully drawn, and the historical detail is a delight to read.  Don't miss this fic; the next time they run "The Patriot" on TBS you'll be rooting for the "evil" British Dragoon.  A big, meaty, wonderful, sigh-inducing historical, done brilliantly.

ETA:  Oh, yeah; even though Tavington's movie story ends (presumably) badly, this story is not a downer.

Fandom Category: Lost/Supernatural
Pairing: Bela Talbot/Miles Straume
Fic Title: A Girl That Could Easily Twist Your Mind (But Right Now It Feels So Fine)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] gottalovev
Link:http://gottalovev.livejournal.com/295356.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG (a bit of grave-robbing)
Genre: Adventure/Romance
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read:

The sort of flirting is new, too, and frankly Miles doesn't know what to make of it. Oh, he'd love to have a chance at Bela, but he knows she's just way too out of his league for it to happen. Miles pokes his eggs and wishes for this trip to end sooner rather than later before he does something idiotic like fall in love.

Full disclosure: this fic was written for me so that goes a long way in explaining why it’s my all-time favorite. But I don’t just love it because it features my very favorite crossover OTP or because it’s tailored to my own set of kinks, I love it because it’s a layered, plotty, wry road trip fic about Miles Straume falling in love with Bela Talbot.

[livejournal.com profile] gottalovev absolutely nails Miles in this. His snark and his reluctance to fall for anyone is pitch perfect. The way he interacts with Bela is so much fun. Her Bela is amazing as well (and let’s face it, there’s not nearly enough well-written Bela fic in the world.) The whole thing culminates in my favorite fic kiss ever. It involves rain, mud, and an open grave.

It’s a wonderful, fun fic with a unique ship and I can’t seem to get enough of it.
