Why This Must Be Read: These are two old, whimsical one-shots with a fairytale feel to them. They use the figures of hero and villain wonderfully, getting to the core Harry's character. Not particularly centred in the romance, but you can feel Luna's love and admiration for Harry in them. Both authors manage to capture Luna's voice, which isn't easy to do.

Why This Must Be Read: I'll just leave you with the summary. Poor Ginny Snape. Quite apart from having the daftest name in the history of the world, she's got a cruel step-father, two evil stepsisters and a bad case of unrequited love for Harry Potter, The Prince Who Lived.
Even worse, she's still got her Potions essay to write, and it's already twenty-five past thirty-two in the Hogwarts kitchens. Oh, yeah, and she's just been assigned the two most incompetent fairy godmothers in the history of the profession, at least one of whom is more concerned with political correctness than actually getting the job done and bringing about the bliss that is Twue Wuv.
Killer high heels! The curse of the toad! A thousand elephants! All this and much, much more, once upon a time...

This fic is certainly weird, but it has the right mix of canon and randomness and it's funny and adorable at the same time.

Why This Must Be Read: After the events of Love and Monsters, Rose has a question. The Doctor may or may not have an answer.

rosa_acicularis has been recced here before multiple times, so I was lucky (and astonished) that Incurable could had been missed. (Fortunate for me, though, because I was wondering what I would put in this category.) As for why this story in particular? Because it features the Doctor and Rose discussing love but coming to the sort of conclusions a nine-hundred-year-old alien would, while lying side by side on Rose Tyler's bed. I think it captures extraordinarily well the push-pull, verging on fulfilled dynamic between Ten and Rose, while keeping their characters absolutely in character.

Why This Must Be Read: Kate/Lorne is the perfect example for this day, as they had only one scene together right, ONE! And the fics for them predates this little scene. wildwest_lantis has been recced before as a whole, but I felt like reccing this fic for today. It's a beautiful fanfiction for these two, and it really shows the chemistry they could have had on the show. And if you've never read wildwest_lantis what are you waiting for???

Why This Must Be Read: One of the things I've always loved about fandom are the stories, and fanworks for the characters that don't really interact all the much in canon. If you think of a pairing it probably exists, and one day as luck would have it I thought about Elijah and Bonnie, and I wondered if anyone had written it, and sure enough I stumbled upon this gem. Bonnie and Elijah are two such wonderful characters who unfortunately haven't as much as acknowledged each other on the show, but this author has used all that potential and has written this amazing piece. After the events of All My Children Elijah takes it upon himself to gain Bonnie's forgiveness, while she does all she can do to ignore him. The chemistry between these two is just wow; you will not regret giving this one a try.
