Day 13: Your favourite real life pairing.

Fandom Category: Political RPF
Pairing: Michelle Obama/Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton/Bill Clinton, Jill Biden/Joe Biden, Amy Rule/Rahm Emanuel, Nancy Pelosi/Paul Pelosi
Fic Title: These Crackpots and These Women (Or, Five Things That May or May Not Have Happened This Inauguration Day)
Author: voodoochild
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/68309
Rating/Warning(s): Teen.
Genre: Drama, character study
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: Five men and women at the front lines of the Obama administration.

Uh, because I don't even live in the US but the cuteness of Michelle and Barak Obama are second to none? (Statistical proof that is in no way statistical). I never read RPF or ship in RL, but I love this story all the same. Aside from the cuteness, this story features five female voices that are so strong and distinct, like they are in real life, and I can't love it enough for that.

Happy 4th Anniversary, [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers!

Some facts: Het_Reccers is currently ranked 95th out of all 440,815 Livejournal Communities (and its climbing fast). It broke the top 100 comms in only four years! \o/ We have over 1700 members. Over 412 fandoms have been recced in 1,012 different pairings. There are 2,700+ posts filled with awesome recs, a lot of 'em with multiple recs per post, so god only knows how many recs total that is. We've had Six Rounds of Shipper and Character Manifestos, which has produced at least, roughly, two thousand recs by themselves. We've had 99 bi-weekly challenges, and the 100th is the ongoing 30 Day Shipper Meme and the Shipper Cage Match (round 3 ends tomorrow).

Furthermore, we have a paid account expiring in, like, mid-2014 because five gracious, lovely individuals stepped up at our time of need and gifted us so we wouldn't lose any precious tags. This comm is run by three dedicated mods, [livejournal.com profile] peanutbutterer, [livejournal.com profile] hariboo and myself, who go through every single post and make sure everything is properly formatted and that all fandoms and pairings, no matter how rare or obscure, get sorted into our system so they can be easily accessible at any time. We have so very many members that are regular reccers, including special monthly reccers and those individuals who can be seen constantly posting on this comm to share the gems they find. This comm wouldn't be the same without them. And an extra shout-out to all those lurkers or one-time reccers! Thanks to all!

In short, we have the greatest comm ever, y/y?

And now, consider this your Off-Topic Post of the month. SPAM US WITH RANDOMNESS AND LOVE. And to close the post, I bring you words of wisdom from the official, longest-lived celebrity het romance known to mankind.

Pairing: Natasha Romanoff/James "Bucky" Barnes
Fic Title: this bullet lodged in my chest, covered with your name
Author: Cinaed
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/492587/chapters/860851
Rating/Warning(s): Mature
Genre: Angst/Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Out of every Natasha/Marvel character pairing, Black Widow/Winter Soldier has to be my favorite. I love a good amount of angst in my pairings, and these two are absolutely fraught with it. This story explores the possible relationship that Natasha and Bucky had back in the Red Rooms and it is so beautifully crafted and nuanced that it's my headcanon now. Natasha is glorious in all of her assassin glory, intelligent and sharp and lethal, set against a backdrop of humanity and humor that few authors seem to give her. And when she cares...well. This is one of the best Natasha stories I've ever read, and the Natasha/Bucky bits are just the icing on the cake. Various warnings abound for violence, language, and horrible situations in general.

Mods, may I please have a tag for this pairing? Thank you!

Day 13- A fic for your favorite Real Life Pairing

Fandom Category: RPF
Pairing: Scarlett Johansson/Jeremy Renner
Fic Title: You and Me and New York City
Author: wendywatson
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/420394
Rating/Warning(s): E/NC-17. Warnings for sexy times
Genre: Fluff
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: I am utterly and completely charmed by Scarlett and Jeremy's chemistry and mutual adoration. The amount of time I've invested in watching all their interviews and reblogging all their gifsets on tumblr is a little worrying. I know I'm not alone in shipping them so I'm a little baffled by how little fic has been written for them. Why have you failed me like this, fandom? Whyyyy??? Finding this story, therefore, absolutely made my life, and everything about it is glorious. The banter, especially, is fabulous--oh dear god, the banter. I can absolutely picture Scarlett and Jeremy saying and doing everything in this story. This fic is an absolute delight and must read. Go forth and enjoy.

Pairing: Alex Kingston/Matt Smith
Fic Title: No One Here Can Say A Word of My Native Tongue (Except For You)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] hihoplastic
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13
Genre: Romance, angst, friendship
WIP?: Yes

Why This Must Be Read: First, let it be clear that I don't read RPF... except when I do! (actually there's only one other pairing for which I read RPF: Torri/Joe) This is real people we're talking about, but my mind helps me by making me think about them as characters. Second, this fic is just fantastic! I've stumbled on it and I've read all the chapters that were posted at the time in one go. My dear [livejournal.com profile] hihoplastic just knows how to write them, and it's awesome! And yes, it's a WIP, but it's updated quite regularly.

Mods, can I have a Alex Kingston/Matt Smith tag pretty please??

Pairing: Mindy Kaling/BJ Novak
Fic Title: this might turn and wind up just the way we'd dreamed
Author: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Link: http://cashewdani.livejournal.com/720397.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13 / none
Genre: Romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Secretly married fic is my kryptonite; add Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak to the equation and I'm there. The author does a wonderful job incorporating all the tweets and the mixture of humor and angst really works for this pairing.

BJ would tell people, if they were telling people, that this happened because of a series of escalating dares.
