Why This Must Be Read: fialka is hands down one of the most talented writers of Castle fic out there. This story – a beautiful, angsty, just-romantic-enough character study that reads as anything but – stands out in particular because it is, quite literally, so good it hurts. In this series, Fi asks one of the great unthinkable ‘what ifs’ of Castledom, and does so with a quiet realism that is poignant and stays steadfastly true to what makes the show such an absolute joy to watch: the characters.
