Since The X-Files reccing ends tomorrow, thought I'd do my part. I definitely don't do the "Why This Must Be Read" descriptions justice, but if you take a chance and wind up disappointed, I'll bake you cookies as an apology, deal?

Why This Must Be Read: A wonderfully worded, in-character look at Mulder and Scully post-series but pre-IWTB. Many people avoid fic taking place during this time period, either because what M/S are going through is just too painful or because most aren't well-written, but this fic is definitely the exception. 10 vignettes, giving us insight as to how their lives may be proceeding after they buy (well, she buys) the unremarkable house. And being that the author has an unheard of amount of comments to this fic, I'd say that the chances of you enjoying are pretty high.

Why This Must Be Read: I'm a sucker for almost any cancer-arc fic, especially around the Gethsemane/Redux I/II arc. penumbra23 beautifully fills the gap between Mulder's late night visit to Scully's apartment, and the next morning when she is called to ID the body in Mulder's apartment. Full of Cancer-angst, 3am breakfast, life reflections, a visit with the gunmen, and, well, this:
"She sank back into the pillows with a small sound of pain, half
underneath him, looking up with her shadow-ringed eyes, tongue wetting
her lips. "We have totally panicked, haven't we?" she asked.

Actually, a last-ditch interlude sounded just like them. "You know,
truth be told, the fact that something's a bad idea has never stopped
us before," he said.

Why This Must Be Read: There is just something about this fic that is so simple, so direct, that just allows them to steal a moment of happiness without getting bogged town in heady history and sadness. It is a fic that will leave shippers smiling and non-shippers (noromos) just as happy. Plus, I love the way the writer catches Mulder's fun side without making him unbelievable.
