Why This Must Be Read: Tony and Ziva are both wonderfully in character and the reasons they get together (and fall apart) are not only plausible, but something I could believe happened during the season break. This is also one of the few (and I mean few) post-Hiatus fics that I can really get behind. It's not technically AU (because these things could have happened) nor does it try to rewrite canon. The language, while somewhat spare, is absolutely spot on and not a single word is wasted.

Why This Must Be Read: I haven't read many fics that can succeed with an out-of-sequence narrative, but this is one of them. It took me a couple of segments to figure out what was going on, but once I did, I think I enjoyed this story even more. I would recommend reading this at least twice through, once to get the lay of the land, so to speak, and once to just admire Cath1's storytelling abilities.
