Why This Must Be Read: To quote the author's summary - "Leonard McCoy was fine with the way he was-- damaged and bitter and determined to stay that way. Then he met Christine Chapel." This short fic is mostly inside McCoy's head as he contemplates Christine Chapel and how she affects him. I liked this, especially because in the end when Chapel (not just the thought of her) enters the story, you can practically see her rolling her eyes and taking charge.

Why This Must Be Read: I could quite happily rec every story of [livejournal.com profile] silverlining_99's, so it seems only right that I should start my specialreccers month with one of my favourites of hers.

Untitled is a response to a kink!prompt for McCoy and Chapel to have sex in the middle of an emergency, with the first part of the story showing a "missing scene" from the battle in the movie, and the second part dealing with the aftermath of both the battle and that moment. While sex is obviously a key aspect of the fic, it is the Chapel and McCoy's characterisations, and the emotions and stress behind their reactions to the battle, that will stay with you, after. Beautifully written.

This is set in the small town called Enterprise and all our favorite characters take on small town roles: cooks, salon owners, mayor, etc. The chemistry between Chapel and McCoy is sizzling, but there are also secondary relationships and friendships that are just as interesting. While it's a long story, you really don't want it to end.

Why This Must Be Read: This story is so very different from any of the SU TOS stories I have read.  The writing is lyrical,sad and oh so beautiful.  There are dark themes pertaining to a child and abuse of a child's rights but it is approached well within context of this story.  Don't know if this story has been rec'd but it is most definitely a must read for anyone who loves the SU pairing and even those who do not.

Why This Must Be Read
: I started reading this fic not long after I recced my last bunch of Star Trek fic. I lost a whole afternoon to it! What I enjoyed best about this fic is that is very much about Janice, her life, and her growth from a determined but unsure young girl to a young woman who helps runs arguably the most difficult ship in the Federation. I love how the the author draws out Jancie's relationships with everyone around her, particularly Captain Pike as a friend and mentor, with the ladies of the Enterprise and with Kirk himself. (Can I just say, I think these two might be my new favourite couple for this movie?)

Why This Must Be Read: This is a very good, very detailed back story on the Reboot-verse's Christine Chapel. Fringe does a great job of taking the original universe back story on Chapel and tweaking it here and there to fit the new universe and all the challenges and changes therein. Weirdly enough, this author's Jim Kirk is one of the best portrayals I've read, and I love that what romance there is has a slow burn to it. This is, honestly, a great story and one I'd recommend reading, no matter who your ship is.
