Why This Must Be Read: Rather than an actual explanation, I leave you with the opening paragraph of this awesome one-shot of joy.

Ginny had once explained how the Weasley children thought – the twins thought in exclamation points, Percy thought in periods, Bill thought in commas, Charlie thought in ellipses and Ginny thought in perfect grammatical style. Ron, she had explained, didn’t think at all. He’d believed her at the time, though he’d pretended to take great offense. Now though, he’s disinclined to believe her as he’s thinking very clearly. The problem is, of course, that he’s thinking about Hermione and he’s thinking in very precise capital letters.

For example, right now he’s thinking that this is a Very Bad Idea.

Why This Must Be Read: As Hermione notes in this beautiful but palpably sad sketch, Ron was always the lighthearted member of the trio, but wars will take a lot from anyone, especially seventeen-year-olds who have lost a brother and grown accustomed to living in a state of constant vigilance. Hermione observes the changes in Ron post-Deathly Hallows, and reconciles the boy she knew with the man she loves.

Why This Must Be Read: Quite literally the second piece of fanfiction I've ever read, "After The End" was written while we all waited desperately for Book 5 to come out. Essentially, it picks up in a post-Voldemort Potterverse, as everyone struggles to recover from a devastating war and to deal with outlying elements of it. Characters we love fall and fumble into each others' arms beautifully if not always gracefully. (The authors must have been borderline clairvoyant, to have called a few of the pairings that later became canon.)

It's AU now, but at the time it was an entirely believable continuation of the series, from the characterization to the writing style to the length, plot arc, and setting. I have to imagine it still holds up now--frankly, the writing at points may be even better than JKR's. If you read one massively long Potterfic, and it isn't Hermione, Queen of Witches (also by Arabella), this is it.
