Why This Must Be Read: This story explores the possibility of what might have happened with Kara and Lee's relationship if there had been no apocalypse to add to their baggage and complicated history. But unlike a lot of AUs, it doesn't simply carve out an ideal easy world for the characters, instead observing their inherent obstacles to happiness with a realistic sense of uncertainty. For anyone intrigued by the angst factor of Zak Adama's death, this fic cannot be missed.

Why this fic?: Follows much of BSG and Inception canon, although for Inception it is mostly post-movie. All characters have stayed in character. Though there is romance the overall scifiness of the whole piece is front and center. The balance of both fandoms in the story is very well maintained.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a really elegant AU set-up where one event ten years before the Mini-Series has a profound effect on the characters, but the novel itself stays very close to canon. It picks up shortly after the Mini-Series and covers the events of season 1 and 2. The author has a very firm grasp of just how things are different in this timeline and paints a believable picture of how the characters came to be the people they are and act the way they do. Kara and Lee never do anything the easy way and that certainly hasn't changed here, but it's a long enjoyable read to watch them sort themselves out.

Even thought this is a very A/U story, the characters stay true to form, It is extremely well written, updated weekly with nice long chapters well worth the wait.

The premise of this story is that the Cylons did not completely destroy the colonies, the humans and cylon's come to a uneasy truce with the cylon's having the upper hand, it takes place only 20 years after the first cylon war not 40. So the characters are in different situations and circumstances in their lives which adds to the wonderful dynamics of the story. This situations are very realistic as to what may have happened if the war would have taken place under these conditions.
In addition to Kara/Lee, I am a true A/R, but the way this it is written, it works extremely well and you may find yourself rooting for the new characters.

Why This Must Be Read: An amazing story. Long, plotty drama, with excellent charactization and a wonderful exploration of the line between humanity and cylon. This AU exists on the premise that Lee Adama is one of the cylons, number twelve. Starbuck, Apollo and Adama are extraordinarily well-done, flawed but not overly (which is an issue I have come to have with canon Starbuck and Apollo). The story explores a lot of the themes that eventually came up in the show, but it was written quite a while ago.

Check it out. Definitely one of the best reads in BSG out there.
