[livejournal.com profile] syd15 requested Mary/Marshall, so here are my recs, just as I promised, bb. :)

Fandom Category: In Plain Sight
Pairing: Mary Shannon/Marshall Mann
Fic Title: Five Times Marshall Didn't Kiss Mary And One Time He Did
Author: RandomRattle (links to her website)
Link: http://randomrattle27.freeservers.com/M2-5TMDKM.html
Rating/Warning(s): R
Genre: Five things meme
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: So...this is really more of an excuse to rec the author. RandomRattle was one of the most prolific Mary/Marshall writers (although she, like myself, appears to have given up on the show around the 3rd season), with about 80 stories to her name. This story is a nice little primer for her writing, showcasing her lovely prose and deft characterization. She's spun 2 of these little ficlets into long, full-blown stories (Secret Agent Mann (READ THIS ONE) and Number 84). She's written Mary and Marshall in all types of relationships--as partners, friends, friends with benefits, committed lovers, spouses, and vampire mates (yes, really, and it is long and AWESOME). She also writes incredibly researched and thrilling action/adventure stories, with epic car chases, gun fights, undercover work, you name it. So basically my advice is to read this story, then go to her website and read ALL THE FICS. All of them.

WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: It's foreign to her, this feeling of needing. It's a good thing they're a walking contradiction. Well written and in character, and the author does a fantastic job of giving us glimpses at the moments throughout the various stages of their relationship, from beginning to end.

Fic Title: Number 84
Author: [livejournal.com profile] randomrattle

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, violence, language
Genre: Action/adventure, partner-fic
WIP?: No.
Special rec: 9/31
Author’s Summary: Mary and Marshall attempt to recover a witness who has fled into a deadly mine.

Why This Must Be Read: While the author labels this as just ‘partner-fic’, I think it is so much more than that. The connection between Mary and Marshall is so, so strong that if they revealed only a fraction of this on the show, I’d probably pass out. The dialogue is smart and fast-paced, the setting is extremely unique and scary as all get-out. But, what shines in this fic is how much Mary and Marshall love, trust and depend on each other. I want to see this fic on the show. Now. This definitely fills Challenge 58.

Fic Title: For I Have Stolen the Moon and Must Be Made to Pay For It
Author: [livejournal.com profile] randomrattle

Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, violence and sex.
Genre: Crack, supernatural, crossover, romance, smut.
WIP?: Story is complete.

Why This Must Be Read: I am really kind of glad that the 'crack' challenge came up so I could rec this story. This is... very au. Very, very au. It also has Horatio Caine as a vampire which is just twelve kinds of genius. It's also incredibly readable in the ways of the best kind of crack. Mary and Marshall are the same and different all at once. That being said, the author did a great job of universe building here and it's worth a read for that alone. (And not just the Crazy Awesome.)

WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: Summary: Mary and Marshall take the show on the road in an assignment that turns hazardous and forces them into exploring the dynamics that shape their relationship. A great look at their dynamic, and the characterization and voices are spot-on. I wasn't even looking for M/M fics, but I stumbled onto this gem, and yes. This is them. This is them as I couldn't have even imagined, but it works because the foundation is all there in the show.
