Why This Must Be Read: So...this is really more of an excuse to rec the author. RandomRattle was one of the most prolific Mary/Marshall writers (although she, like myself, appears to have given up on the show around the 3rd season), with about 80 stories to her name. This story is a nice little primer for her writing, showcasing her lovely prose and deft characterization. She's spun 2 of these little ficlets into long, full-blown stories (Secret Agent Mann (READ THIS ONE) and Number 84). She's written Mary and Marshall in all types of relationships--as partners, friends, friends with benefits, committed lovers, spouses, and vampire mates (yes, really, and it is long and AWESOME). She also writes incredibly researched and thrilling action/adventure stories, with epic car chases, gun fights, undercover work, you name it. So basically my advice is to read this story, then go to her website and read ALL THE FICS. All of them.

Why This Must Be Read: In this story, Mary and Marshall are required to attend the annual Halloween Costume Ball for Albequerque Law Enforcement and the theme this year is a fantasy masquerade. Predictably, Marshall loves it and Mary loathes it. To make things a little more interesting this year, they decide to make a bet--whoever figures out the other's identity before the masks come off wins whatever he or she wants. Marshall and Mary's costumes are so perfectly suited for their personalities--but the costumes may be a little more than they seem to be... A great read and the sexy times are seriously sexy.

seren_ccd has been rec'd on this comm so many times for so many fandoms, but I don't think anyone has rec'd her IPS stuff, which is fantastic, like her work usually is. Originally written for Porn Battle IX, Mary dares Marshall to prove that he has "a kiss that kills" (a la Some Kind of Wonderful) which leads to the inevitable conclusion of porn!fic memes everywhere.
