Oh, this going to be fun. 30 Days of Recs in a week! So let's start this off. I have to say to rec stuff I haven't recced before was tough because I've recced so many of my faves already, but I'm always up to a new challenge.

( The Many 'Verses of the X-Men )

Rogue and Gambit authors, myself included, tend to write fusion fiction, sometimes without entirely intending it, but the main setting/s for each story below is/are included next to the title. My own preference in Rogue and Gambit stories is for darkly romantic and angsty, but I already posted a whole lot of those recs! So, you'll be getting a mainly sweet and light list, with a few darkly emotional pieces included.

Why This Must Be Read: This is hands down my favourite fanfic in all of the X-Men's various fandoms. Set after the events of X-2, Scott does his best to cope with his loss. You know the one.

ridesandruns is probably best known for the witty, funny dialogue in her fanfics, but here she takes a different angle and delves into Scott's head. It's features a very powerful Scott voice, beautiful framing using his horses, and it has made me cry every single time I read it. It's definitely worth your time to read.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic is so incredibly gripping. Remy has escaped from the grips of Mr. Sinister after two years of captivity, but not without consequence. He lives, feral, in the old Morlock tunnels underneath the X-Mansion. I love how McDonald doesn't flinch from Remy's damage. She boldly experiments with alternate endings and consequences. I enjoyed every moment.

Why This Must Be Read: This is crazy awesome. Taking up a challenge to rewrite a series using another fandom, Tempest chose to rewrite Anita Blake using the X-men. Storm is our badass protagonist, fully using her mutant powers as well as her magic and pitting her intelligence and strength against vampires thousands of years older than she is. Definitely recommend.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's epic and humongous and written by an incredible author. I'd rec all the rest of her work, but that'd take too long. It has character development and a gigantic world and is completely fascinating. All of the Romy moments are thoroughly earned. This effects my internal characterization of Rogue and Gambit in so many ways. It's a sequel to a story just as wonderful and cowritten with Lori MacDonald, which you can find on the author's page (however, with less Rogue; it's more setup to the Thieves' Guild).

Because even when the writer's grammar and punctuation errors make my teeth wince, I'm still enthralled by the story. Because it's absolutely fantastic.

Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my all time favourite fics of all time! The writing is fantastic, and the characters are so incredibly perfectly characterized. It's got angst and romance, but it's complicated, just like the characters. It could absolutely have been produced by Marvel as a television series or cartoon!

In this A/U, Rogue is 18 when the story begins and Remy is 21. In this 'verse, Rogue had to deal with the first use of her powers alone. When she is chased by Mystique, picked up by the X-men in the graveyard, and convinced to come to Xaviers', it is the second time she has used her powers. At the beginning of the story, Remy and Rogue have never met before, but this IS after Self-Posessed (where Rogue's absorbed powers go wild). Rogue's only been back in the field for a short while at the beginning of the story. The main action of the story begins when Rogue is captured by Trask. She is experimented on extensively. Remy is another prisoner and together they escape. The X-Men think Rogue is dead, and she thinks they abandoned her. Together, Remy and Rogue must learn to trust each other and deal with everything they have been through.

Why This Must Be Read: If anyone's seen X-men: Evo then you know that the description of "giddy" for anything to do with Rogue in this verse is ten kinds of wrong, but by the end of it you get it, kinda. Rogue and Remy's relationship in this is almost too sweet, too perfect, but by the end of the fic you're just left wanting more. (Thank god for the sequel!) A very good mix of the cartoon's canon and comics canon that is done so lightly and well it doesn't overwhelm, but it's not just a story about Rogue and Remy, there's also a *great* action based story here, some wonderful friendship moments between Rogue and Kitty especially, but everyone in the X-Mansion too. It's the prequel to "Love Of My Life" and it sets up a lot of that story in a very light and wonderful way.

Why This Must Be Read: OMG. This fic is still blows my mind. The plot is so wonderfully intricate, dense with detail, emotion and life. Seriously, the detail and research that was put into this fic is amazing and it shows. This too is also a very big team/ensemble piece and everyone that shows up is wonderfully presented. Being the sequel to "Giddy", it picks up the story of Rogue, Remy and the X-men and how the end of "Giddy" impacted each of them. And it did. In many ways.
