Why This Must Be Read: Karen/Nick was a bit of a guilty pleasure ship for me; when the show began I was intrigued at their backstory, but didn't really expect them to get together in the present. I read a lot of fanfiction dealing with their past, and this is one that really stands out for me.bowlerhat_girl shows us the couple through the eyes of various members of the Darling family, who are all so brilliantly written. She has a lovely writing style and the last line kills me.

Why This Must Be Read: Another fantastic story which adds some background to Nick/Karen; the author shows us a very plausible history of Karen's marriages. Something that always interested me was that they had been together in the past, and Karen was still in love with him when the show started. This is a well written, easy flowing fic that has a perfect mixture of being sweet and romantic, but with the angst that comes with the pairing.

Why This Must Be Read: There isn't a great deal of DSM fanfiction out there, and so not a lot of Nick/Karen. This sweet little oneshot was a lovely find though. Written before the final 3 episodes aired, it brings the couple together - something which was rushed in my opinion on the show - leaving you with the feeling they were inevitable.
