Why This Must Be Read: In A Child's Insight, John enjoys time with Teyla's son, Torren John. The author perfectly captures the voice of a small child and Torren's questions about how the world works will make you smile with recognition. This brief and lovely story has a transcendently beautiful writing and a clever structure. My favorite part is how palpable John's longing for Teyla and for the child he loves so much to be his son is. A tiny snippet to whet your appetite since the story is too short for an excerpt, "'Uncle John?' came Torren's tiny voice as his contact triggered another set of questions from the toddler. 'Yeah?' 'Where does love come from?' Wow. That one brought John up short. He straightened and caught his breath with the realization that he had no idea where it comes from. He could feel it inside him though, a weighty sensation that seemed to fill him up and made his heart beat with more purpose than just keeping him alive."
