Fandom Category: The X-Files
Pairing: Dana Scully/Fox Mulder
Fic Title: December 23rd
Author: AnniePants
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2639668/1/December_23rd
Rating/Warning(s): Teen // Implied non-con, character death, general dark themes
Genre: Drama
WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read: This is the only post-Invasion fic that I've read that I feel fits the mood of the show perfectly. Which means, basically, that not is all rainbows and sunshine; quite the opposite, actually. The end of the world is a dark place and AnniePants doesn't shy away from that. The romance between Mulder and Scully, while extremely important to the plot and backstory, isn't overwhelming. It's understated and beautiful, just like it was in the show. The characterizations are absolutely wonderful, as is the introduction of a new character whose identity I won't reveal for spoiler reasons. All I can say is that this story could be cliche, but it's not. It's captivating and I found myself unable to stop reading once I'd started.
