Why This Must Be Read: Bonnie is in this to make certain that Grams didn't die for nothing. She's pretty sure that Damon just likes to kill things. AU after "Blood Brothers", but still contains elements through the S1 finale.

Thank god for this fic. If you ever decide to read only one Damon/Bonnie fic, read this one. I've lately been on a Damon/Bonnie kick, and my favorites are always long, plotty, well-written, grammatically correct fics - of which, in this particular field, I have found sorely lacking. (I was so desperate I even tried ff.net, and the dredge there quickly made me run in terror.) The premise of this fic is simple enough: Bonnie doesn't want to let her Gram's death amount for nothing, so she resolves to take out the vampires that emerged from the tomb. Problem is, she needs help in finding and dealing with them, and that's where Damon comes in. Thus, a rather epic roadtrip results, in which Bonnie learns a thing or two about herself that she's not sure she likes, and more than a thing or two about Damon. The writing is flawless.

The fic is just so utterly well-freakin-written. The voices, the narrative, the clever dialogue keeps me coming back for rereads. It sells me on a dynamic that, honestly, I wasn't too keen on when I stumbled on it. But the author sells it to you so well, and by the end of the fic, I had drastically changed my perspective of what Bonnie/Damon could look like - and if that ain't a mark of a good fic, I don't know what is.

Why This Must Be Read: It starts with Nathan wrapped in despair. It's a beautifully told story from Nathan's point of view, interweaving Nathan's life in a Trouble-free Haven and the events that allowed that to come about, with the dread fear that something happened to Audrey. Wading through all the angst to reach the ending is well worth the trip. Duke and Julia add their voices too.

She doesn't make it easy for him, clings to her humanity, struggles with her vampire side, and that is one of the reasons I truly love this story. The intense chemistry between Frankie and Alison is an added bonus.
