Why This Must Be Read: I view Martha and Nine as two underappreciated aspects of Doctor Who that would be amazing together. There's not a whole lot of fic of them out there, but what's there is worth the read. Bloody Nature is a retelling of the Human Nature/Family of Blood arc from Season 3, only with Nine instead of Ten, and located in Cardiff 1926. In this story, the Doctor hides as John "Johnny Big Ears" Smith, a dock worker in Cardiff, while Martha works as a nurse in the poor areas of the city. This story examines the social issues of the time, while also slowly bringing together Martha and "Johnny". That is, until the Family forces things to a head.
