Why This Must Be Read: Summary: Ariadne's new life is torn apart when Robert Fischer asks for her help. There's something dangerous crawling through his dreams, and it wears a familiar face. An interesting and unique pairing, and so awesomely explored. I loved the character insight and this possibility of a future. Very expertly written, and the author explores the emotions and details just wonderfully. Go, check this out if you're remotely curious or interested in this pairing.
The intimacy between them is so new and fragile that Ariadne does not know what to do with it. If this is what having Robert Fischer’s trust feels like – well, she’s not sure she wants to lose it. He’s so barbed and bright. He could make hurting into something sweet.
Robert is staring into his glass now. Ariadne sets her own down on her knee.
“Are you nervous?” she asks softly.
“I’d be a fool not to be.”
“Mr Fischer, I meant what I promised.” When he gives her a look she adds, “Although I’m sure it will go well, of course.”
She doesn’t ask if he trusts her. She’s almost sure, now, that he does.
“In the dream you never call me Mr Fischer,” he says.
She blinks, startled. “Oh,” she says. Clenches her fingers around the glass. “I’m always less – professional – with my clients in dream space. I’ve found it works… better.”
“Ah,” says Robert. It could mean anything.
He finishes his drink and sets the tumbler down.
“I’m ready,” he says, “when you are.”
