WIP?: Yes
Why This Must Be Read: I read this story for the first time ages ago and I still remember it quite clearly. This is the type of story you want to tuck in your pocket and keep with you because it touches you so deeply on every level. For one, every character is explored fittingly, with a careful respect to which mindset Raul, Christine and Erik would have considering their historical and social circumstances. The historic accuracy is amazing, and the amount of research/proper knowdlege employed by the author in every chapter is very apparent. The Erik, Christine and Raul you meet in this story are not merely fictional chracters, but they feel like real people, each one on their journey of selfdiscovery and discovery of the world. The premise of the story is simple, really: To say 'I love you' one must know first how to say the 'I'. –Ayn Rand
And so when Erik is abruptly forced into the outside world after the Opera fire, he must learn to interact with people as a man, not a phantom - you see him struggling to accept that and you cheeer for him as he learns that he can have a real life. In the same way, Christine must grow out of her too naive and childlike perception of life and become a woman. I LOVE this story because it shows Erik and Christine and even Prince Charming Raul under a much more human light and it explains beautifully because in their very dysfunctional way, Erik and Christine were equals in beauty and sheltheredness.
