Pairing: Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard UST
Fic Title: Home for Christmas

Rating/Warning(s): PG-ish
Genre: AU, holiday fic
WIP?: no
Why This Must Be Read: Because today, being Christmas, this is the perfect fic for anyone that likes this pairing. It's an AU where John Sheppard never joined the Atlantis expedition, when Elizabeth Weir, visiting Earthside, gets stranded in his snow covered cabin. The UST is wonderful, characterization of John in particular is fascinating as - without Atlantis - he's an isolated character. He really doesn't like Christmas much, but too bad, because he's stuck with Elizabeth who seems stubborn to make the best out of their situation.
“I can help,” she offered and then something a ways up a hill caught her eye. Without thinking she clasped his arm and pointed with her other hand. “John look. The perfect Christmas tree.”
He was already shaking his head. “Oh no. Forget about it.”
“But why? It's not very big. You must have an axe somewhere. We could bring it inside and have Christmas.” Her eyes were sparkling and she was already moving in the direction of the fir tree that was poking above the snow covered hill.
“Hey,” John sprang into action to follow her. “Whoa whoa whoa, who said anything about having Christmas. Hey!” He hurried to catch up with her.
Elizabeth had reached her target and was scooping snow away from the bottom of the tree and shaking its branches. It proved to be a bit bigger than she originally thought, but she still thought it would easily work.
“We're not cutting down that tree.” John was emphatic.
She turned shimmering eyes in his direction and her face fell. “It's all alone out here. Don't you think it would make a nice Christmas tree?”
It was difficult to attain his usual indignant hands-on-hips stance considering the bulky parka he was wearing and the fact that now that they were further up the hill, snow was above his knees and trickling down into his boots, but somehow John managed. Elizabeth was getting comfortable with this side of him and chose to ignore it.
“John,” she reasoned, “you said we have to make the best of it. This is the best I can think of.”
John sighed. “I'll get the axe.” He started back down the hill but then paused and turned back toward her. “Stay here. Don't move. I don't want to have to dig you out of a hole.” He once again began to make his way back toward the barn, snow arching in plumes with each angry stride.
