Why This Must Be Read: Remember those days in season five, when Spike was realising he may feel more about Buffy than just a desire to kill her, and Buffy was still totally blind to any possibility that she might feel the same? Well, this story takes that time period and puts a more literal spin on things. The characterisations and dialogue in Love is Blind ring so honestly true, you'll think you could be watching an actual episode from the show.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic combines two of my favourite things about the Buffy/Spike 'ship -- a post-Chosen reunion, and a reminder of those days when they'd just sit quietly together on her back porch in Sunnydale. A lovely little story that is all about the quiet moments.

Why This Must Be Read: The last season of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer was just as much about the quiet moments between Buffy and Spike as it was about everything else, and this story highlights that beautifully. [livejournal.com profile] voleuse takes us on a tour of Buffy's house and, in doing so, gives beautiful little glimpses into how in sync these two characters could be with each other.

Why This Must Be Read: The Gift was one of the most powerful episodes in Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, and this story gives an aching look into Spike's mind in that moment at the bottom of the tower when the gang gathers around Buffy's body. Referencing all the key moments in their history, from that first meeting to the (then) last, the writing in this is lyrical and circular and absolutely haunting.

Why This Must Be Read: On the Beach is a novel written by Nevil Shute back in 1957, detailing the end of the world in Melbourne, Australia. The Last Summer is that same apocalypse, updated the year 2000 (the end of season four) and shows how Buffy and Spike might handle an apocalypse neither can hope of stopping. The imagery in this story is beautiful, the devastation of the characters stirring. I find it hard to pick a favourite scene in this but Buffy's Drusilla dream and the last American BBQ come awfully close to perfection.
