Why This Must Be Read: I read this when it was first posted in installments because many people recced it to me, even though I figured it wasn't for me— that old kiss of death proclamation. Instead I found this novellette to be very much for me because whomever takes a what if? and lets the characters run with it so that a loving friendship that blossoms into romance and a new relationship feels organic and solid. If you hate Twilight, if you've said you'd never read a Twilight fic for XYZ reasons, give this a try because it is very different than the source material. It's better.
