Why This Must Be Read: The summary reads, "It's not about being unmade; it's about remaking, one aching step at a time." I couldn't have put it better, and I can't begin to describe the beauty of this fic. It takes the line, "You and I remember Budapest very differently," and runs with it. Basic premise? Clint thinks he and Natasha are violently in love, and that Loki has messed with Natasha's memories. Natasha thinks love is for children, and that Loki has messed with Clint's memories. We don't know who's right. This fic has humor, angst, drama, romance, suspense, and an absolutely beautiful look at the way the minds of two very dangerous, battle-scarred people work, and the way that their equally dangerous, battle-scarred hearts might work together.

Excerpt:

"If you're going to treat me like a fragile wilting flower, Barton, I will fly you to the desert and leave you there," Natasha says, more teasing than dangerous. "And of course I wasn't worried."

"She leaves terrifying, she comes back terrifying," Clint says, relieved despite himself. "Which desert, out of curiosity?"

Natasha rolls her eyes. "Like I'd tell you. That would make it too easy."

"Have I mentioned lately that you are my favorite murderous lunatic?"

"I'm everyone's favorite murderous lunatic, Clint," Natasha says. "I mean, usually only for the last four, five minutes of their lives, but still."

Why This Must Be Read: An interesting look at the way Natasha sees and interacts with the other Avengers, especially Clint. They have such lovely dynamics in this work; there's a sense of underlying familiarity that makes it clear they're old partners, though whether it's romantic or not is ambiguous, although I firmly view it with shipper-glasses on, thank you very much.

Excerpt:

She’s always loved sparring with Clint. He doesn’t hold back or pull his punches. They’ve worked together so long that sparring is familiar and comfortable, and it’s more like playing than anything else Natasha does. Dodge, kick, twist, bend, hit.

Intellectually Natasha knows there’s little benefit to sparring with Clint anymore; they know each other’s moves far too well to learn anything. It’s stagnation.

But Natasha won’t give it up, still loves the way Clint’s knuckles graze off her arm as he deflects a true punch, loves the solid feel of his body when she pulls him down to the mats.
