Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: Casefic, humor, hurt/comfort
WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read: I hope there are more responses to this month's pairing request, because I'm new to the Whoniverse and loving the fic here. This entry is a great example of a fan-favorite plot bunny that isn't likely to happen in canon--RTD-era characters (Martha and Jack) meet Moffat characters (Eleven and River). Hijinks, incomplete explanations, and shameless River/Jack flirtations ensue. Bonus points for the monster-of-the-week herein.

Pairing: River Song/Eleventh Doctor
Fic Title: Living Legend

Rating/Warning(s): NC-17
Genre: Smuttastically smutty smut
WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read: I am extremely picky when it comes to smut. With all due respect to the wonderful people who populate fandom, it's rarely done well, and even then I'm picky. "Living Legend," though, is a brilliant example of smut done right--it's real and tangible, serves the (admittedly light) plot, keeps the characters in-character, and, yes, it's gun-smokin' hot. It's porn with a point, introduced and broken up by banter. I love these two so much.

Pairing: River Song/Eleventh Doctor
Fic Title: One Small Breath In the Whole of Time

Rating/Warning(s): PG
Genre: Character study
WIP?: No
Why This Must Be Read: A thoughtful, eloquent, simply beautiful look at the life of River Song. One of the fascinating things about this character is that in spite of her life being mostly oriented about the Doctor's (see also the previous rec), she isn't strictly defined by him. She can live on without him--she is just very determined not to have to do so, and that precarious balance is examined and respected gorgeously here. There's an equally lovely companion piece from the Doctor's perspective, too.
