Why This Must Be Read: The series begins very much focused on the Ronon/Keller relationship, what it means to them, personally, professionally, and the first three fics of the series almost exclusively focus on this. As the series goes on, and it spans s4-5, it shows you it's also very much about Atlantis constant struggle against Michael, who is the main antagonist of the series. An interesting and frankly different take to most of the fic I've seen out the for Ronon/Keller this series becomes interesting as you delve deeper in Michael's plans and character's past. Full disclosure: some (purely personal) characterisation points aside this fic does a wonderful job with it's characters, their relationships with each other (romantic and otherwise), and plot.

Also, I'm including this one expert bc before I finished the last fic in the series I was all prepared to write Sam Carter/He Who Shall Not Be Named as a pairing, but then they just had to call him by name. Either way, even if you don't read the fic, this most cannot be missed. ( I am easily amused and like sharing with the world )

Why This Must Be Read: I've always had a soft spot for this ship since season four, Quarantine, and the use of Jaws (one of my favourite movies ever) in reference to them (you'd have to watch Quarantine to fully understand), but the show went in a different direction and then the show ended. What I loved about this fic was that it was such a genuinely good fic that focuses on the characters as individuals much as it does on the ship. The whole fic takes place off-world on the planet of Posturr where as a civil war breaks out and Ronon and Jennifer get separated from the team and they have to work together to get their team back and eventually get off the planet. One of my favourite things about the fic is how realistically the portrayal of the civil torn planet is depicted and how it triggers memories for Ronon from his own past. One of the better Ronon characterisations I've read, along with Keller's and makes the Ronon/Keller believably work after the shows finale without completely AUing it. Plus there's a mention of the Pegasus's galaxy preferred (radio?) soap opera at one point, which might be one of my favourite things ever.

The characters’ voices are spot on and I love the relationship with Jennifer and Ronon. It also captures the world of Atlantis wonderfully.

Why This Must Be Read: Coming Back Home is one of my favorite feel-good stories for Stargate Atlantis or SG-1. It's utterly charming, warm and engrossing. This story has something for everyone, balancing tense emotional drama with delightfully light comedy. At its heart, this wonderful story by a talented first-time author is a study of the relationships on Atlantis and in the SGC, not just romantic but those of friends, coworkers, parent and child and superior to subordinate. The exquisitely written narrative focuses primarily on is the 'will they or won't they?' relationships of Laura Cadman and Evan Lorne and Sam Carter and Jack O'Neill. Here as in canon, the bonds of marriage, partnership and friendship are a source of strength, comfort, guidance and joy, and the author wisely allows the dramatic conflict to arise naturally from how these relationships overlap, intersect and change. The list of pairings seems enormous yet each utterly believable couple receives enough attention to make their fans happy and convey palpable chemistry. Coming Back Home won a 2008 Isis Award in a tough category so though I am biased as its beta, I think I can safely guarantee you'll love it too.

Why This Must Be Read: Even if you have never been tortured by corporate team-building, company-bonding, trust exercises or corporate retreats, you will enjoy the funny and action-packed Woolsey's Team-Building Fiasco by Nika Dixon. The author always has a deft touch with mixing humor, action and romance and this story is no exception. In fact, as another survivor of these horrors, she seems to have been inspired to new heights of hilarity. In the story, Woolsey decides to bring yet another of his beloved corporate activities to Pegasus. He plans an elaborate, multi-phase, off-world (bringing new meaning to off-site!) retreat and exiles the senior members of the expedition off to it for several days, including the team, Keller, Lorne and Cadman. Of course everything that can horribly wrong does, with a little help from pranks by the boys and the curse of Sheppard, leading to some serious whumping for several of them. Throughout their ordeal, they flirt deliciously, making the story all the more fun.

Why This Must Be Read: Dezrai's In Atlantis is like a SGA/SG-1 fan's wishlist in a fic (or at least mine), it has: equally featured gorgeous love stories between Jack and Sam & John and Teyla, excellent characterization, hilarious humor, space battles, betrayal, evil villains, Jack finally wises up and arranges the chain of command to be with Sam, John is smart and recognized for it, John and Jack play with Atlantis and ancient tech (which loves John best of course), Todd and John in action, SG-1 comes to visit, John bonds adorably with Torren John, fast-paced action scenes, John is whumped many, many times, many BURNING HOT love scenes including chair smut (yes, that chair), angst that makes your chest hurt, Teyla gets incredible scenes to show her strength and wisdom, Rodney is entertainingly frustrated and jealous of John and Jack's genes, fascinating Ancient technology and outposts, a heart warming and sexy Ronon/Keller love story, Cadman flirts with Rodney, Todd has an angsty love story with his queen, Lorne gets a big part and a love interest, the Travellers drop by, Michael is evil and Daniel interrogates Todd (who is definitely a second lead) on Wraith culture and explains the concepts of DVDs (must be read!). I could go on but don't you want to check this out already?

Why This Must Be Read: I would classify this as the quintessential Dex/Keller fic. It was one of the first fics written for this ship that I found, and it has many of the basic elements that are mirrored in subsequent fics about in the pairing. This fic starts off at a place in canon where I first figured Ronon and Jennifer might have a believable interaction—that first spark of interest—after "Missing" (0407).

There's the initial awkwardness when Jennifer first approaches Ronon to ask him a "favor." The pacing is just right, and nothing seemed rushed about their developing relationship. Their growing closeness is very believable.

So read this fic if you'd like to see this pairing done right. :)

Why These Must Be Read: These two unusual and perceptive fics are from an author who usually writes (wonderful) Ronon/Keller stories. They are extremely short and subtle so I would urge any Stargate Atlantis fan to read them, regardless of pairing preference. Both stories use the act of expression through art as a means for the characters to communicate, albeit unintentionally. The stories are too short for excerpts and renisanz punctuates them so beautifully with quotes that I was inspired do the same.

In "Side by Side, They Both Get Bright," Teyla teaches John a stress-reduction technique from the late Kate Heightmeyer who must have read the following: "When we are self-conscious, we cannot be wholly aware; we must throw ourselves out first. This throwing ourselves away is the act of creativity. So, when we wholly concentrate, like a child in play, or an artist at work, then we share in the act of creating. We not only escape time, we escape our self-conscious selves." (Madeleine L'Engle)

In "Parallax", my favorite of the two, renisanz spins two bland prompts into something unforgettable when she writes about Teyla learning to express herself with photography the pre-digital way after lessons from Jennifer Keller, who also teaches Ronon. The use of technical terminology and Teyla's POV is extremely well-done. "The picture… will reveal a truth of fact, of feeling, of experience, of aesthetic power, of form, of life itself – and this not only to you but also to one or all who look at it. The picture may even tell different things to different people – but it will tell." (Tim Gidal) The same could just as easily be said about the author and reader of a story and I found what renisanz reveals here of the characters and herself insightful and lovely.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's fun and quiet and has the characters interacting over something "everyday," in this case, breakfast. I often find beauty in the mundane things, and this fic is the perfect example of that. Jennifer displays an unexpected amount of insight into Ronon's character, and it's a pleasant, touching surprise to both him and the reader.
