Day 28 - A kink fic.

Fandom Category: House MD
Pairing: Lisa Cuddy/Greg House
Fic Title: The Untimely Death of Megaupload
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lieueitak
Link: Here
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, graphic sex
Genre: Romance, smut, kink!fic, AU
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: First, let me say that I hadn't noticed at first that I'd rec two fics by the same author two days in a row. I just realised that yesterday. Anyway, this fic fits this day perfectly. The kink is a sex tape (yes, Cuddy allows House to film a sex tape but on certain conditions). Sadly for House (you'll understand why when you read the fic), their weekend away coincides with the death of MU. This fic is hot, really hot, and it's not work safe of course! Also, this is AU in the sense that House and Cuddy never split up.

Why This Must Be Read: House is kind of a strange fandom for me - I'm really only drawn to the subsection of fanfiction that deals with how House and Cuddy knew each other during their college days at the University of Michigan (seriously: it's a pretty narrow focus). Of those college-era fics, this is one of my favorites. "Jigsaw" tells the story of House and Cuddy's one night stand, back when this sort of thing was all speculation, and ties everything in perfectly to their later relationship - snarky and sexy with a shadow of bitterness.

Why This Must Be Read: Excellent dialogue, great characterization, this author has Cuddy and House's back and forth dynamic down. We all know that House just can't help pulling on Cuddy's metaphorical pigtails, and the different ways he goes about it in this piece will just make you laugh.

“Well, well, well,” House said, walking through her open office door.

Leaning on his good leg he lifted his cane to point at her triumphantly.

“It seems as though the crippler has become the cripple…eee.”

Why This Must Be Read: Set in the hiatus between season four and season five, this is an intelligent and well-written look at how House, Wilson and Cuddy could have dealt with Amber's death. All the characterisations ring true, and the relationship that unfolds between House and Cuddy is wonderfully handled.

Rating/Warning(s): pg-13
Genre: General, angst, hurt/comfort?
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: This has the best voices for all the characters I've ever seen. It's a simple story that takes the premise that House helps Cuddy out by getting her pregnant, and then proceeds to do everything he can to avoid any more responsibility in the situation. And somehow, yet, he gets drawn in. Wonderful read, but don't go in expecting it to be sugary-sweet or fluff. This thing is far too real and raw to be anywhere near fluff. House is himself: arrogant, stubborn and sometimes even cruel. But still, somehow, he manages to help. Cuddy is wonderfully drawn as a woman over her head with a new baby, and the postpartum depression is deftly handled with a type of realism you very rarely see in fanfiction. Wilson is there in all his Wilson glory, deconstructing and pushing House to examine himself and be more than what he wants to be.

Great read.

Author: w8ing4huddy

Rating/Warning(s): M
Genre: Angst/Drama
WIP?: Yes, but the author updates every night, sometimes with more than one chapter

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's visceral. The story starts at season six, when House finds out that Cuddy is dating Lucas, and goes from there. It deals with love, friendship, and shows a House getting more mature after Mayfield, and a Cuddy who's slowly losing control of her own life. It's an interesting change, since it's usually House who screws up and Cuddy who saves him.

Some times, the angst is so bad that it hurts you, but it's beautifully written. All the characters' acts and decisions, even the most extreme (and let me tell you, there are some very extreme things here), are in character. It's one of the best pieces of fiction I've ever read. And don't you worry - there is a happy ending, the story just hasn't reached one yet.

Why This Must Be Read: First, you have to have seen Known Unknowns, the latest episode to understand this fic, and otherwise you'll be spoiled. This fic is so well written, the characters were captured perfectly. This is a must read if you want a post-ep for Known Unknowns.

Why This Must Be Read: Eight simple rules for dating Greg House, as compiled over the course of an evening. Funny, perfectly in character, and a nice look at Cuddy/House as Lisa learns navigating a date with House is as complicated as working with him. Very nice read. ;)

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13
Genre: angst, baby!fic
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: This fic was written for this year's House Big Bang, and it's just awesome. [livejournal.com profile] cryptictac wrote the characters wonderfully. Though it takes a different direction than canon, we see the not so perfect Cuddy that we had a glimpse of in Big Baby. It really shows that nothing's perfect on the first try, and that change can be good sometimes. There's tension, there's banter between House and Cuddy, and if you like that in the show, you'll like this story.

Why This Must Be Read: A family emergency puts Cuddy in the position of having to ask for House's help and House, being House, decides to push and prod at Cuddy's walls as he comes to know a side of his boss that he has never known. This is a story about what drives Cuddy to succeed and her relationship with her father, and having to deal with the scars of the past in order to allow someone else in.

Rating/Warning(s): NC-17, graphic sex, language. Clear spoilers up to "Joy," and speculation based on spoilers released for “Last Resort” and “Let them eat Cake.”
Genre: Episode-related
WIP?: no

Why This Must Be Read: Based on the recent episodes to date, revolving around the nebulous evolution of Cuddy and House's relationship, this is a great look at what could happen between the two. Because, really, when two such stubborn individuals clue into the fact that they can't ignore... whatever the hell is happening between them, it's not going to happen easily. Sexual tension, a bit of something more, or a disaster waiting to happen, it's all possibilities with these two. It gets kinky in the last part, which I wasn't expecting but it totally worked. Hot, in-character, and I loved seeing their power plays and struggles for control. If you're expecting House to go all sappy and in-touch with his feelings because he realizes he has the hots for Cuddy, then this fic isn't for you. He's as much of an ass as he usually is. Still, would we really want it any other way?

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13; Babyficish, spoilers for House, MD season 2-3.
Genre: Romance, fixit/retelling, friendship, introspection.
WIP?: Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: I'm posting these two together as "Prism" is a sequel to "Perverse", and follows it directly. The thing I liked most about these stories is that they're basically a retelling/altering of season two and the beginning of season three, but they delve hard into both Lisa Cuddy and Greg House, without softening either of them. They're still very much themselves, but they are them going in a different direction. However, the reason I'll tout these hinder and yon as awesome, awesome stories is the prose involved. Gidget is a phenomenal wordsmith, and I'm always left clamoring for more. Especially because she's one of those brilliant authors who can handle an ensemble, even while keeping the focus on her leads.
