Why This Must Be Read: How very appropriate for Halloween. When people start disappearing in the woods of Pennsylvania some time around Halloween, Bela calls in Dean to help investigate the case. This story is set in s3, right before Dean's dragged into hell for the deal he made with the crossroads demon. It deals with Bela and Dean's antagonistic relationship wonderfully, going from sniping at each other to sleeping with each other to caring for each other. If only the PTB had been brave enough to actually follow through on their original direction for Bela, we may have seen something like this fic onscreen; this fic has a very true-to-the show feel to it. A weekly monster, research, getting beaten, yadda, yadda, yadda. The interaction is perfectly in character, too. This is much better characterization to Bela than I've seen elsewhere, including the show.
