Why This Must Be Read: I love this story so much that I actually downloaded it so that I could still read it if FFN ever died. It's one of those magical stories that's full of all sorts of tired fandom cliches but never once feels like it. From start to finish it's realistically and beautifully written and, amazingly, is almost entirely Jareth and Sarah alone together with no big jumps in time or boring bits. I seriously cried the first time I read it (and possibly every other subsequent time). Plus, it's a Christmas fic!

Excerpt:
He shook his head. "You will have to return as soon as I can manage to transport us back to the Underground."

Before it occurred to her that yelling at the Goblin King was probably extremely high on the list of things that could be classified as very bad ideas, Sarah was on her feet and in his face.

"Why?" Her eyes narrowed. "Why do I have to go back? I won. When you showed up and did that whole "you have thirteen hours" thing, you didn't say one damn word about me having to go back if I won."

"You weren't supposed to leave," he snapped. "You were supposed to stay willingly. But you were far too immature to understand even that simple fact."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Jareth grimaced. "You were to stay and rule the Labyrinth. With me."

Genre: drama/romance
WIP?: no (oneshot)

Why This Must Be Read: Since it's short I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but I will say that in the sea of hot Labyrinth fics this doesn't just stand out because it's child-safe, but because it eloquently and simply exemplifies that age-old truth that love can withstand even the passage of time.

Excerpt:
"Sometimes..." Her voice was soft, and almost sounded as if it came from far away. It was the voice of the dreamer. "Sometimes, I wish I could go back..."

The darkness swallowed her answer, and the space beyond the circle of firelight seemed to be waiting, expectantly.
