Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my very favorite authors, I've followed her through several fandoms and would read anything of hers. I recommend this story because it builds on the mystery of the creepy thin man and explores his psyche. I wasn't especially drawn to this ship just from watching the first movie, but the author paints the thin man as a desperately lonely man who has become obsessed with Dylan. She feels herself similarly entranced, yet torn... mostly because he's so creepy. :) I believe there's a sequel as well, if you check out the author's home page.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a quick snapshot scene, ten years into the future after the movie ended. It's Valentine's Day and John is just closing up his garage when Claire stops by in the pouring rain with a broken down car. You can tell that they've remained friends through the years, along with the rest of the breakfast club, but they never got anywhere very serious as a couple, even though it's clear they have deeper feelings for one another. The author keeps Claire and John in perfect character, with teasing dialogue and a happy ending.

Why This Must Be Read: The thing I most disliked about the movie is oddly the thing I love most about this fic: the relationship between Lois and Clark (not Lois and Superman). In the newest movie, it seemed as if Lois barely even knew Clark existed, and that wasn't what I had in mind from all other permutations of the Superman tale. This fic does a lot to bridge the gap of how this Lois and Clark could become friends, and then more. It's perfectly in character, and does justice to Richard White's character. The voices sing true, and it's really a great exploration of a post-movie tale.

Why This Must Be Read: This has spoilers for 1.12, so be warned. I absolutely love Winona's characterization here, in tone and in thought. It just rings true to a person we've barely begun to explore on the show, but Peanutbutterer has her motivations, internal struggles and mannerisms down pat. The relationship between her and Raylan is a complicated one, and I love that. It's not a fairy tale, he isn't an easy man, and she certainly isn't a saint. But somehow it's softly romantic anyway. Definitely becoming a new interest in my shipping.

Why This Must Be Read: I love this story so much that I actually downloaded it so that I could still read it if FFN ever died. It's one of those magical stories that's full of all sorts of tired fandom cliches but never once feels like it. From start to finish it's realistically and beautifully written and, amazingly, is almost entirely Jareth and Sarah alone together with no big jumps in time or boring bits. I seriously cried the first time I read it (and possibly every other subsequent time). Plus, it's a Christmas fic!
