Why This Must Be Read:

This is the most in-character Futurama fic I have ever read. The dialogue is perfect and Fry is both hopeless and sweet at the same time, just like he is in canon. All of the Planet Express crew get at least a couple of lines each, even if they're only shown briefly, and they're all just perfect.

Fry's desperation and frustration as he tries to plan his ultimate surprise for Leela is totally heartwarming.

Why This Must Be Read: This was written prior to season four, so therefore doesn't contain any of the canon Mary Winchester backstory, but nonetheless it's a rich origin story for the Parents Winchester. It's very much set in a post-Vietnam tone, with John struggling to fit back into a society that doesn't know how to deal with him. John's awkward and standoffish, very much absorbed in his war trauma, so it's Mary who has to take the initiative. A complicated love story told simply; my favourite kind.
