Pairing: Spock/Uhura; Scotty/Charlene Masters; McCoy/Chapel
Fic Title: The Herald
Author: Spockchick

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13/Dark themes
Genre: Mystery/Supernatural
WIP?: Yes

Why This Must Be Read: This story is so very different from any of the SU TOS stories I have read.  The writing is lyrical, sad and oh so beautiful.  There are dark themes pertaining to a child and abuse of a child's rights but it is approached well within context of this story.  Don't know if this story has been rec'd but it is most definitely a must read for anyone who loves the SU pairing and even those who do not.

Pairing: Carmen Sandiego / Waldo
Fic Title: A Where Affair
Author: [livejournal.com profile] vibishan
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/where_inthewrld/1376.html
Rating/Warning(s): According to the author, "R. NC-17 if you're a prude."
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: Lovely and romantic, this fic lets our two wanders do just that.  They overlap unexpectedly and in exotic locations--[livejournal.com profile] vibishan's eye for detail really stands out, and the links help--without talk of pasts or futures, just chemistry and some hot times with hats on.

Fic Title: A hidden man will soon be mine, the plan is now in motion.

Rating/Warning(s): Nothing objectionable except maybe the last line.
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: A super-short comment fic written off a prompt, this little number perfectly ties together the broad settings of the Where's Waldo? books with the cryptic clues Carmen Sandiego likes to leave into a neat snippet of romance.

Pairing: Princess Leia Organa / Captain Han Solo
Fic Title: Double Twist of Fate Or a Melody
Author: Thistlerose

Rating/Warning(s): Teen and Up
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: The author's summary, "A sketch of their relationship, post-Jedi," captures the gist of this fic perfectly.  It's no more than that, a series of outlines of different aspects of their new lives, but the whole thing is beautifully rendered and so totally in character you can just about hear Carrie Fischer and Harrison Ford speaking the lines.  The image of Leia's impossibly long hair flows throughout the piece, which is a lovely trope, and Thistlerose also finds the clearest characterization of Padmé Amidala I think I've ever read.

Fandom Category: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Jenny Calendar / Rupert Giles
Fic Title: Distractions
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dollsome
Link: http://dollsome.livejournal.com/655323.html
Rating/Warning(s): PG, if even
WIP?: No.

Why This Must Be Read: Re-watch the early interactions between Giles and Jenny Calendar (up to "Dark Age") and you'll see what I mean when I say this should be your canon.  [livejournal.com profile] dollsome nails vintage Giles, from his vague resentment at dealing with high school students who are not the Slayer to his general distrust of / disdain for all things electronic.  Jenny's voice, too, is just as it should be--overly friendly but not over-sharing, honest and blunt.  Moments like these become all the more precious when you remember that this was really the first ship wherein we witnessed one of Joss Whedon's better-known proclivities.

Fandom Category: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard
Fic Title: ...where time begins to fade
Author: [livejournal.com profile] medie
Link: Part One | Part Two
Rating/Warning(s): NC-17 | explicit sexual situations
Genre: Adventure, romance
WIP?: No

Why This Must Be Read: Based loosely on the Star Trek: The Original Series episode, Where No Man Has Gone Before, [livejournal.com profile] medie gives you a highly enjoyable idea of what it might be like if John and Elizabeth were suddenly, mysteriously handed God-like abilities. What is so amazing about this is the balance that Elizabeth and John strive for, using their new powers for good (righting one or two things that have bothered them for a while now) while not actually influencing anyone against their will and thus becoming no better than the Goa'uld. [livejournal.com profile] medie plays the ethics of the situation very well, and keeps John and Elizabeth wonderfully in-character. An amazing fic!
